Feeling Hot, Hot, Hot

Living on Long Island in the summertime, we loved to get outside, enjoy the beach, boardwalk, playgrounds, and all the small towns which pepper the North Shore, where we live. Now that my boys are one and three, we loved to get outside and explore together, even if the destination was just in our own backyard.

As fun as it is to run around outside with the sprinkler going non-stop, I noticed both my sons would get super rundown, ruddy-cheeked, and very tired. My grandmother would call this “relentless moving,” but after mentioning some of their post-outdoors symptoms to my online mom groups, a few moms proclaimed, “they’re dehydrated!” Uh oh, mom fail. How could I not have noticed this?

Is my child dehydrated?

Lucky for me, when I googled for answers to rehydrate my worn-out kids, the trusted family brand, Enfamil® Enfalyte®, popped up on my screen. After reading, “Is my child dehydrated?” I learned the difference between mild, moderate and severe dehydration. Further, Enfalyte has a handy informational page all about how to maintain hydration in babies and kids, which is super helpful for uninformed mamas like myself (obviously, when in any doubt, call your pediatrician if you’re concerned at all!)

Enfalyte is great for dehydration due to sickness or exertion

After my boys ran around like maniacs on a hot day, I could see that they needed to hydrate and pulled out a cold bottle of Enfalyte from the fridge.

What can we do to restore hydration in kids due to sickness or heat?

Enfalyte is the answer! When it comes to hydration, ultimately, I want to ensure that my kid has enough electrolytes, and Enfalyte makes that easy. This clear drink, with no artificial colors, flavors, or sweeteners, is made to replace electrolytes that my child may lose, whether because he’s running around outside, has a stomach virus, or is strenuously working it on the soccer field.

Shine an Enfalyte on the Problem

I didn’t hesitate for a second when it came to giving this to my boys, as Enfamil is the most highly recommended infant formula brand from pediatricians; and, Enfalyte has been a trusted staple in hospitals for over twenty-five years. We can keep it at home in either of two flavors, Cherry Splash and Mixed Fruit.

My little boys tried the Mixed Fruit flavor and thought it was a treat. I helped my one-year old take little sips, while my three-year old had a small amount in a cup by himself. They enjoyed the flavor, and I appreciated that it didn’t have any artificial sweeteners in it, as we don’t normally let the kids have them. I feel at ease knowing that I have some bottles of Enfalyte in the house to be prepared for the next unexpected stomach virus or food poisoning bout. When water just won’t cut it, a few sips here and there of Enfalyte really makes a huge difference in keeping a little one hydrated.

Two kids sharing germs

Something no one told me before I had a second baby is that whenever one child gets sick, the other one is bound to get sick as well. When my oldest came down with a fever right before his birthday, I sighed, knowing what was to come next: his little brother was also going to get sick! I was so glad that I already had some Enfalyte in my arsenal. As soon as my older son started showing indications of being sick, and refusing food and drink, I gave him some Enfalyte to sip on for re-hydration, and he felt better. Since my husband tends to pick up whatever the kids have, I am glad to keep Enfalyte in my medicine cabinet for when one of the adults gets sick, too (another thing no one tells you”¦)

Snug as a Bug

Enfalyte by Enfamil helps quickly with dehydration in little ones

As anyone with two small children can attest, keeping kids in bed to “rest” when they’re sick is nearly impossible. Although my son felt better after Enflayte (and some Trolls), I could tell his body was run down and he needed to rest. I put both boys in the bed and, with some sips of Enfalyte to rehydrate and a nap (after much begging and pleading on my part), they both seemed so much better. Refreshed, rested, and ready to wrestle! I’m all about multi-purpose products for my (small) house, and I love that Enfalyte works to help restore hydration for hot summer days and stomach bugs.

As we turned from summer fun back-to-preschool and back-to-the-germ-pool, we made sure to re-stock medicines and oral electrolyte solutions with the school supplies. I will keep Enfalyte in the house year round for the whole family.
