I love creating something silly and commemorative just because. Since my birthday this year was super lame — oh yeah, I told people that celebrating with a two-week-old meant 3am cupcakes and more birthday to enjoy, but come on — I’m on the lookout for a do-over. Our friend, Mommy Poppins, suggested making a holiday.
How often do you wish you could just slow down and spend a quiet day together with your family? How about creating your own family holiday? You can do anything you want. It could be around a theme, you can exchange gifts, or just hang out together for a day with no distractions.
Maybe you can get some inspiration from one of these books: Silly Celebrations!: Activities For The Strangest Holidays You’ve Never Heard Of or 365 Unplugged Family Fun Activities: A Year’s Worth Of Ideas For TV-Free, Video-Free, And Computer Game-Free Entertainment
I’m all in favor of this activity if it means my husband can have the day off work to play with us.
