What to do in Pittsburgh with a baby

Where to push your stroller in Pittsburgh

Jodie from the adorable new online magazine for mamas, Sunshine Peach, sent us a week of fun times in her city of Pittsburgh, PA. We love the idea of enjoying tourist activities in your own city. Thanks, Jodie!

Monday – Ride the Incline and overlook the city
3 riversKick off your week by getting to know the city from a different perspective. Your little one will enjoy the ride on the Monongahela Incline from the Station Square shopping complex to the top of Mount Washington. This old cable car will slowly, slowly, slowly make its way up over the city while offering great views. Once you get to the top head to one of the observation decks or stroll along Grandview Avenue where you will be able to see Heinz Field, PNC Park, Downtown Pittsburgh and The Three Rivers Point (where they all meet). This is an excellent place for pictures.

5:30am to 12:45am Mon-Sat and 8:45am to Midnight on Sundays, $1.75 Adults, $0.85 Children 6-11, Free under six

Tuesday – Children’s Museum
The Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh is a great place for all ages. Each exhibit has something to play with for all ages, including babies.

10am to 5pm Mon-Sat and Noon to 5pm on Sunday. $9 Adults, $8 Children (2-18), Free under 2

Wednesday – The Good Ship Lollipop and Station Square
All aboard the Good Ship Lollipop! This cruise sails the Three Rivers of Pittsburgh. Take in the views as local mascots entertain and the captain shares tales of the city. The cruise boards from the Station Square so after you debark, you can stroller through the shops and grab something to eat. Make sure to find the dancing fountain in the center of the complex.

Tickets Adults $12.89/Children $9.22

Thursday – Kennywood
Madeline at KennywoodKennywood is a great place to spend the day with a toddler. There are plenty of rides for everyone and an area set aside for kids. “Kiddy Land” features cars, boats, motorcycles and more. There are also live shows throughout the week and plenty of corn dogs and ice cream to satisfy your appetite. Make sure to ride the train for a guided history through the park and a chance to relax and rest your feet.

Gates open at 10:30am. Admission to Kennywood is via a one-price fun-day pass. The basic cost of the pass is $28.95. For those shorter than 46 inches, the price is $18. Children 2 and younger can enter and ride for free at any time.

Friday – Phipps Conservatory
Plants, flowers, butterflies and more are set in 9 glass display houses at Phipps Conservatory. Stroll through gardens around ponds and past fountains. Baby may not be able to stay awake surrounded by all of the peace and tranquility of nature. Highlights for kids include the Palm Court featuring a railroad display and the Butterfly Forest.

9:30am to 5pm everyday, Adults $7.50, Children $4.50 (2-12), free to children under 2

Saturday – Strip District
If you want to see what Pittsburgh is all about, head “dahn” to “The Strip.” Vendors hustle their wares along the street in this bustling market district. If you have Pittsburgh pride, buy baby and Daddy matching Steeler jerseys. Take a break in one of several coffee shops that line Penn Avenue. And don’t forget to stop at Wholeys for a peek into the giant fish tanks.

Sunday – Go Steelers!
Baby Madeline and JodieIf you are not from Pittsburgh I will excuse you from knowing that there is only one thing to do on STEELERS SUNDAYS. Grab your terrible towel, outfit your little ones in mini Big Ben jerseys and get thee to Heinz Field. (For a list of home games visit the Steelers Home Page)
