In my house, we think it is great to take pictures in the same chair each month (or each week!) to really see the baby grow before our eyes. We got in the habit of dressing Holden up and propping him in the big yellow chair. Now that he’s bigger, our challenge is not to snap the photo before he tips over, but to snap the photo before he lunges for the telephone. Ahhh, progress is a beautiful thing!

Other ideas:
- Put your baby against a solid color sheet on your bed.
- Snap a picture next to the same stuffed animal each month to show perspective.
- Photograph tiny hands and feet next to your own hands and feet.

Well done!
Speaking of picture taking….While visiting with another new mom and flipping through her photo album, I noticed a pattern. There were tons of pictures of baby with friends and family, but only a few with Mom and baby. It occurred to me that while most new moms are seemingly religious about chronicling our baby’s magical moments alone and with others, those snapshots often don’t include the very woman responsible for bringing this wonderful new life into the world — “Mom.” We’re typically the one behind the camera. That said, here’s a call to action: armed with your digital camera, make friends with the auto-timer function. Take some candid shots of you and your little one. Be generous with the picture button. Go nuts. Even if the shots aren’t your ideal of perfection, you’ll be glad you did it. It’s fun and a great bonding activity.
We do this with both our kids - same chair, same stuffed animal. For the older one, I did it every month until he turned 2, now I’m doing it every 3 months. It’s amazing to put them all together and see how they’ve grown.
It’s also fun to compare the baby (now 7 months) with his brother’s picture at the same age!
perfect idea.
I started taking the stuffed animal + big chair pics after reading it on your site. I have my cousin doing it too. It’s awesome to see the growth over the months.
We too did this every month for a year - same chair, same stuffef animal. Then we had it framed and it is now hanging in her room. I am going to continue to do this every year now.
We did this with our twin boys, Nate and Alex. We kept all the bad photos as well as the good ones, and each month the photo shoot got more hilarious to us.
As there were so many that we loved, rather than put together a Tabblo, I put together a video montage:

My sister is pregnant with her third and I have motivated her to do this activity with all 3 of her kids in the same chair every month.
We did this with our daughter every week for the first year and we are on to monthly for year two. We took the pics with a stuffed animal which traveled with us so we wouldn’t miss a week. I also got a bit obsessive about never having more than one photo per outfit…she’s our first so it was a great way to show off all the great clothing gifts we got!
For her first birthday my graphic designer hubby (who has access to a large format printer) made a poster of all 52 pics - it’s priceless!
Here are the year one shots:

I love this idea! I had read about doing this long ago and just plain forgot. Now my kids are 6 & almost 4. I guess it’s still not too late to start!
