I have heard — and totally believe — that babies give their first real smiles right when you don’t think you can go another day without one (like you’re starting to joke about how you want to leave junior out by the dumpster, ha ha?).
When your baby smiles, praise him and smile back to keep those smiles coming.

Haha! My mom says this as well, that God designed it so that, just when you think you can’t stand having a baby any longer, they smile, and it wins back your heart!
I totally agree!
I remember very clearly my baby girl’s first laugh. It was a friday night on her 11 week birthday and I was at the end of my rope. My husband had been working 10 hour days all week and I was running out of ways to entertain her so by Friday night I was done and about to break down and right when I was on the verge of tears she gave me a nice loud belly laugh. It’s like she knew what I needed to get me out of my funk and she was right. It made all those sleepless nights, breast feeding hurdles and panic attacks worth it. My heart just about exploded! It makes me happy just thinking about it.
