Activity #188: Cook and freeze

by RookieMom Heather on April 28, 2010

in Eating,Month 4

When you bother to cook, double it and freeze half. Make sure to freeze in portions that you’ll want to use because nothing bums me out faster than trying to defrost the entire basketball-size brick of beef stew because I can’t snap off a portion for me and Alec.

Ideas for meals to cook and freeze:

  1. Lasagna
  2. Beef Stew
  3. Any casserole or masterpiece from your crock pot

The follow-on tip is from parenthacks: remember to schedule and use up the treasure trove of meals in your freezer. And pretty soon, you can make and freeze food for baby too. :)

get a whole loaf of bread, vanilla, and a dozen eggs. make an entire loaf’s worth of french toast. then wait for it all to cool a bit and freeze it. then, when you and your hungry muchkin want some french toast for breakfast or a snack, just pop a couple slices into the toaster. it’s so yummy and super easy!

Batch cooking has revolutionized my life! It makes cooking so much easier. Two of my recent favorites come from Aimee of Simple Bites and Under the High Chair.

The first, is a Taco Bake, which is incredibly yummy and both my husband and daughter love. http://www.simplebites.net/how-to-sneak-veggies-into-meals/

The second is a Chicken Pot Pie with Leek and Lemon. Now, you had me at pot pie, but this is incredibly good. http://www.underthehighchair.com/2010/01/chicken-pot-pies-with-leek-lemon.html
