Giving a person their name is not a task to be taken lightly, and it can actually turn into one of the most stressful things about becoming a new parent. You may have searched through dozens of lists already and feel even more lost than when you started. Here is my biggest tip, get out a piece of paper and make a list of every name you come across that you like. Have your partner do the same and see what names both end up adding. You can start here with our list of 150 gender-neutral names.
What’s the Buzz About Unisex Names?
Unisex names have definitely increased in popularity over the last few years. Who is to say exactly why this trend has taken off (there have been some interesting trends over the years, for sure), but I am definitely a fan. Some names are truly unisex and have been used for either gender for some time. Other names are just recently being used for one gender when they had been the opposite in the past, like Noah for a girl.
What I love most about this list is that you can still find a name with a really classic, timeless feel that you may not have considered before. Of course, we added some new trendier options as well. Many of the names are short and sweet, meaning they would pair beautifully with any middle name of your choosing. For example, you could take a name like Ellis which is typically masculine and add the middle name, Anne. Now you have a very feminine feeling name, Ellis Anne, that has this popular gender-neutral edge. Okay, okay, we will get to it! Read on for our favorite gender-neutral names.

My Picks for the Best Gender Neutral Names
I don’t think anyone is necessarily an expert at picking out names for babies. If someone is, I would love to hear about it! However, I have put a lot of time into thinking about baby names and still love each of my kid’s names even 17 years later. That has got to be some kind of accomplishment, right? If you would like my opinion, here it goes. My favorite gender-neutral name of all is Noah.
I think Noah is the perfect name for both boys and girls. It is short and sweet but packs a punch. The name Noah means rest and comfort, which are hopefully both things your child will bring you down the road. It also is biblical for both males and females with a variation of the name Noa being used for a female.
My second favorite is Ellis. I particularly love it as a gender-neutral name for a daughter but I think it is also adorable for a boy. I mentioned this above, but I would pair it with a classic middle name like Anne to give it a feminine vibe.
What’s Your New Favorite?
I hope after this read you have added some new favorites to your list. Sometimes there is no magical “that’s the one moment!” but I promise you and your partner will agree on a name eventually. You will meet your baby and there will be a name that just feels right. It may take 3 days of calling them “Baby LAST NAME” but you’ll get there. The gender-neutral naming trend is here to stay for quite a while I think, but that is okay because it is one of my favorite trends ever.
Wishing you the best of luck on your name search! I would love to hear some of your favorite choices in the comments below!
