If you’re like me you are looking for anything that will get your kids outside and away from screens. In a hunt for the best outdoor toys, I am listing some that we have used at our house with kids ages 5, 8,11, and 14 years old. I am also adding in some that as an Occupational Therapist I think are great for development. So get out there and enjoy that fresh air and all that nature has to offer.

Best Outdoor Toys for Kids:
Little Tikes 2-in-1 Snug ’n Secure Grow With Me Swing (ages 9-36months)
Okay, so this will require you to be outside too, but that is a great reminder that us parents need to take a break and connect with our kids. As an Occupational Therapist, I highly recommend this one not just for the fun but for the vestibular development. Vestibular sensory processing is a foundation for coordination skills so this is also helping with develop the brain. Swinging can be very relaxing for kids too so this is a great tool when younger kids are having a tough day.
Little Lab Creations 67in-Diameter Sprinkle & Splash Party Play Mat
Outdoor Water toys fun for kids, toddlers and babies | Exclusive beautiful design (18 months and up)
In Southern CA it really does heat up in the summer so water toys are always fun. I really like this one because kids of all ages can enjoy this together. It is easy to hook up to a hose and get playing. Don’t forget that sunscreen and always keep an eye on kids around water.
Little Tikes EasyScore Basketball Set (ages 1 1/2-5yrs)
I am not just recommending this one because I am a basketball coach, but hey, nothing wrong with starting them young. We gifted this one to our nephew when he turned one and he’s already dunking (on the low setting of’course). Be sure to fill the base with sand to prevent it from coming down when playing, otherwise it is very easy to set up. This truly is one that will keep them entertained and active for hours.
Adventure Kids-Outdoor Explorer Kit (ages 3yr-7yr)
This adventure kit just makes me think of growing up out in the country in Wisconsin surrounded by nature. There is so much to discover even in your own backyard!! My daughter just asked for a bird watching kit so this will be perfect with these 5×30 binoculars. I’m trying not to pick a favorite from my list but this one is really awesome!!
Stomp Rocket Stunt Planes (5-12 years)
We have received this one as a gift a few times and my boys loved these!! Now, they fly so well that you can lose them so I recommend an open park to really have some fun. It may seem like it’s all about the flying rockets, but kids actually get a lot of physical activity with this outdoor toy.
Lifetime Geometric Dome Climber Jungle Gym (ages 3-10)
Climbing is such an important overall development activity. It builds strength, develops coordination, and improves balance. This dome has real rock climbing hand grips. It is also weather and rust-resistant so it can be kept outside. So fun to play on with a friend!!
Yard Games Giant Tumbling Timbers (8 yrs and up)
Sometimes it feels hard to find outdoor toys for older kids, but this is one of my favorites. This is a fun game for the whole family. It’s great at BBQs and parties. As you hold your breath pulling out a block hoping the tower doesn’t fall, everyone is holding their breath with you. You’ll appreciate that this comes with a bag to keep all the blocks together when not using them. Again, fun for the whole family!! Love this one!!
GoSports Solid Wood Premium Cornhole Set
Last but not least, another family favorite. This is 100% solid wood and you can personalize it to your favorite sports team, or movie, or whatever your family enjoys. The beanbags are weather prof which is great because you know somebody’s going to leave them outside, ha. Also, it comes with a heavy-duty tote bag to keep the beanbags together when not playing. My teens love this game so it’s something we can do outside as a family.
I hope this list of Outdoor Toys gave you some great ideas that will help your family stay active and connected. Enjoy!!
