As a caregiver, you want to make sure your child has the right kind toothpaste to keep their teeth healthy. Deciding what the best toothpaste for kids is, though,  is no easy task! It can be hard, especially when there are so many different products to choose from. Don’t worry, we have the answers right here!

Our Favorite Toothpaste For Kids

Best Toothpaste For Kids

As children become older, the focus shifts from merely cleaning their teeth to removing plaque and whitening. You can use fluoride toothpaste to prevent cavities, but make sure they use a small amount each time.

The dentistry association recommends brushing 2-3 times a day, preferably after meals. If your child struggles with brushing their teeth, you can make the process fun by playing their favorite theme song (about 1-2 minutes long). You can also set up a reward system to encourage them to brush their teeth regularly.

Without further adieu, our favorite toothpaste for kids below!

Hello Antiplaque + Whitening

If you love using coconut oil for teeth, look no further. Hello created a toothpaste with tea tree oil and coconut oil that will prevent and remove plaque and whiten teeth at the same time. The tea tree oil kills bacteria that causes bad breath and leaves your mouth feeling clean and refreshed.

  • Minty flavor
  • Natural ingredients
  • Bpa-free
  • Gluten-free
  • Free of artificial sweeteners or preservatives
  • No SLS

Tom’s of Maine Cavity Protection

This is the best toothpaste for kids who can’t stand minty flavors! It uses calcium and silica to clean teeth and has a great orange taste. While this is a popular brand that’s used by many, it does contain SLS. Use small amounts of toothpaste each time, and make sure your child knows how to spit and rinse.

  • Orange-mango flavor
  • Uses natural ingredients
  • No artificial sweeteners or preservatives
  • Has Fluoride

Colgate Zero

Colgate recently came out with a new vegan toothpaste that is created with no artificial ingredients. It’s a foaming deep-cleaning toothpaste that helps strengthen tooth enamel and provides cavity protection.

  • Minty flavor
  • “Zero” artificial flavors and preservatives
  • No artificial sweeteners
  • Has fluoride

Sensodyne Pronamel (For Sensitive Teeth)

If your child has sensitive teeth that react to cold or hot foods, this toothpaste would be an ideal choice. It’s specifically designed to re-harden tooth enamel that may have been softened by acid erosion.

  • Minty flavor
  • pH neutral
  • Reduces teeth sensitivity
  • Has fluoride

Kid’s Crest Cavity Protection Toothpaste

Crest Toothpaste is another well-known conventional brand (besides Colgate), so you’ll often hear about this brand. Their kid’s version was specifically designed to prevent and reduce tooth decay while being gentle on tooth enamel. It has edible glitter added for appeal (kids love glitter). Still, some parents may not want any plastic microbeads or glitter in their child’s toothpaste.

  • Minty flavor
  • No sugar
  • Has glitter
  • Contains fluoride

Best Toothpaste For Toddlers

When your baby becomes a toddler, it’ll be time to teach them how to brush their teeth throughout the day. However, getting a toddler used to a brushing routine can be challenging at times, unless they have a tasty toothpaste on hand.

You can help your toddler learn how to apply a small pea-sized amount of toothpaste and hold their toothbrush correctly. Make sure you use a toothpaste that is safe to ingest until they know how to spit it out without accidentally swallowing some.

Hello Fluoride-Free Kids Toothpaste

Hello creates a wide variety of toothpaste, and this one is fluoride-free. The natural ingredients help clean and polish your baby’s teeth without toxins or chemicals. Your baby will love the watermelon flavor, and they can continue to use it as a toddler.

  • Watermelon flavor
  • SLS free
  • Vegan
  • Free from dyes or artificial sweeteners
  • Bpa-free
  • No Fluoride

Burt’s Bees Kids Fruit Fusion

Burt’s Bees is well known for its line of natural products. Their toothpaste is no different. Fruit Fusion is available with fluoride or without fluoride. That way, kids can continue to enjoy the same fruity flavor as they become older.

  • Fruity berry flavor
  • No SLS
  • No artificial flavors or sweetness
  • Free of preservatives or plastic microbeads

Orajel Fluoride-Free Kids Toothpaste

Orajel became popular with parents when they provided relief from toothaches and sore gums from teething. Then they decided to take it a step further and developed a fluoride-free training toothpaste that is safe for young children. That way, you can teach them how to brush their teeth without worrying about them ingesting it.

  • Fruity berry flavor
  • Alcohol-free
  • No SLS, sugar or aspartame, or fluoride

Best Toothpaste For Kids

Nature’s Gate Strawberry Gel

Nature’s Gate is a toothpaste brand that is becoming popular thanks to its organic ingredients, like silica, aloe, and ginger root extract. This particular toothpaste is popular with many children, mainly due to the cherry-flavored gel. It’s like candy to them (without all the extra sugar!)

  • Cherry flavor
  • Gluten-free
  • No SLS
  • No artificial flavors or sweetener, soy, or fluoride

Kiss My Face Kids Toothpaste

This brand claims to be “obsessively natural,” which means you can be sure that their toothpaste doesn’t have artificial ingredients. It uses silica, aloe, and cranberry oil to clean teeth and keep gums healthy. Many parents like this toothpaste because it doesn’t have sorbitol in it.

  • Fruity berry flavor
  • Gluten-free
  • No artificial colors or flavors, SLS, or fluoride

Best Toothpaste For Babies

It’s a myth that children under the age of 2 don’t need a toothbrush or toothpaste. It’s important to start cleaning their teeth as soon as the first tooth erupts. If you don’t, then you’ll risk tooth decay. If your baby drinks from a bottle, then the risk is even higher.

Brushing with a soft toothbrush and non-fluoridated toothpaste will get these pearly-whites clean in no time. Put a small dab of toothpaste about the size of a grain, then rub it gently around the tooth. You can also massage the gums. This can be soothing for teething babies.

toothpaste for babies

Hello Training Toothpaste

This vegan toothpaste can be used on babies as young as 3 months, and it’s formulated with aloe vera to help soothe gums while keeping new teeth clean. Unlike the other kinds of toothpaste on this list, this one has a yummy apple flavor. I wish adult toothpaste came in flavors like this!

  • Apple flavor
  • Gluten-Free
  • No artificial sweeteners or sugars, SLS, and Fluoride

Burt’s Bees Baby

Burt’s Bees knows that babies need to have their new teeth and gums cleaned too. That’s why they developed a toothpaste that’s just for babies. It’s formulated with orange oil as its key ingredient. What’s nice about this is it has a mild flavor, so it won’t overwhelm your baby’s senses and make brushing an unpleasant experience.

  • Mild fruit flavor
  • No artificial flavors or sweeteners, dyes, or Fluoride

Brown’s Natural Baby Toothpaste

This toothpaste is made with entirely natural ingredients to help clean your baby’s teeth and gums. If your baby doesn’t have teeth yet, it can be massaged on your baby’s gums. Parents have reported a difference in their baby’s bad breath after using Dr. Brown’s toothpaste. Your baby will also love the mild flavor.

  • Pear and apple flavor
  • Natural ingredients
  • No artificial colors or preservatives
  • No fluoride

Jack N’ Jill Natural Kids Toothpaste

What’s nice about this toothpaste is that it’s made with certified organic flavors from real fruit, and there are many flavors to choose from! There are only about 7 ingredients that go into this toothpaste, and they’re plant-based. Babies will think that they’re getting a fruity snack each time you brush their teeth.

  • Fruity flavors (variety)
  • Organic flavors and natural ingredients
  • SLS free
  • No fluoride, sugar or artificial color, or parabens

Babyganics

This toothpaste for kids is gel-based with natural plant-derived ingredients strong enough to clean teeth and remove plaque. It’s safe for babies to swallow, and the flavor is so appealing that they will be asking for more. You can apply it to a small toothbrush or massage it directly onto their gums.

  • Strawberry flavor
  • Gluten-free
  • No SLS
  • No artificial colors

Final Thoughts

Having toothpaste made for kids on hand will teach your little one that taking care of their teeth can be fun and yummy! Also, be sure to help your child develop a consistent oral health routine early on, along with getting them into a pediatric dentist.
