Summertime is beach season! These warmer months can be so much fun with kids in your tow! However, beach going with little ones requires a lot more precautions, toys, and accessories than you might be used to! To help ensure those lazy summer beach days are fully enjoyable we have compiled a list of the best baby beach gear!
Baby Beach Gear! 7 Things not to forget to pack before you head to the Beach!
Nothing is more important than protecting your babies precious -yet- very vulnerable skin! A must have baby beach gear item to grab is the Neutrogena Pure & Free Baby Mineral Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF50. It is dermatologist tested, water-resistant, hypoallergenic for sensitive skin, and is mineral based! The nice thing about this particular one is that it is a well-known brand that has been around for a while. Meaning that it has been well tested for efficacy! Check current prices here!
A good wide rimmed hat is an essential for a beach day with a baby! It is important to find one that provides good protection from the sun, but also stays on throughout the day! You also want to find one that has good UPF (ultraviolet protection factor), a chin strap, a wide brim, and back protection.
A good baby beach gear sunhat to check out is the SwimZip Unisex wide brim hat. It has an adjustable chin strap that can fit the tiniest of babies to those who have the chubbiest of cheeks! It also has a head strap allowing it to fit multiple head sizes, and it won’t be grown out of too quickly! This hat has the highest UPF rating of 50 plus, a wide brim that shades your babies face from every angle, and it floats! Check current prices here!
These are a big necessity for a beach trip, especially if you have a little one who isn’t potty trained that wants to explore in the ocean. Regular diapers won’t cut it – as soon as they hit the water they’ll absorb it, fall apart, and become super saggy. Swim diapers are designed to fight these obstacles. They are made to withstand water and contain any solids. If your little one goes potty it will pass through to the water, but it will keep in any #2’s they might accidentally take.
A good swim diaper to check out is the color changing swim diaper from Babyganics. They are disposable, have UPF 50 protection, and changes color after 30 minutes of exposure to the sun to indicate that it is time to reapply sunscreen and check to see if the diaper has been soiled. A beach tent is great to have for the beach. It allows your baby to be protected from the sun, have a nice shady place to cool off in or take a nap, and it provides privacy for those diaper changes. I recommend finding one that is easy to pop up and put away, and one that provides UV protection.
A good one is the Schylling UV Play Shade. It is UPF 50+, is easy to put together and take down, and is perfectly sized! You can find it on amazon, or any local Target, Walmart, etc. Check out our top Baby Beach Tent Article
A good water resistant beach blanket is much needed on those hot days when the sand is too hot for your little one to sit on. It provides comfort, and can be a great place for them to play on! It also helps prevent them from eating all that icky sand!
You can find tons of waterproof beach blankets but in my opinion the one to get would be the Yodo water-resistant tote blanket. You can easily find this one on amazon! This one is great because it is lightweight, and folds up into a tote, making it so easy to carry and transport!
These aren’t essential for a beach trip, but babies love to explore and like to keep busy. You don’t need to go out and buy a set of beach toys if you don’t feel it necessary, you can always bring everyday toys from home. I will say that it would be best to bring toys that are easy to wash/clean.
If you are looking for a set of beach toys I suggest heading over to amazon and checking out the sets they have there, like this one! They are a lot less expensive then getting them at a baby store, or major retailer, and they have so many options!
It is always a good idea to have a reliable tote bag with you when going out with a baby. You can use any bag that your heart desires, even your usual diaper bag. It is always a good idea to keep it packed with snacks, water, sunscreen. Even better, extra swim diapers, regular diapers, an extra outfit, and warmer clothes in case it cools down.
If you’re looking to buy a specific bag for beach outings, choose wisely! I suggest getting one that is big enough to fit everything your little one needs for the day. Other considerations may be that it is easy to clean, and has plenty of pockets for storage! Check this one out!
