Activity #128: Spend more time in bed

in Mommy, Month 6, Sleepy

For Stay at Home Moms, focus one day this week on getting more rest for you. Don’t get out of your PJs in the morning, and as soon as your baby’s first nap starts, jump back in bed. If you can’t fall asleep, read a magazine. During his/her next nap, take a shower and then get back in bed. If you can’t fall asleep, talk on the phone in bed.

This morning I heard the first sounds of needy people in my house at 5.40. Ugh! I soothed Scarlett back to sleep, and got back in bed. I usually have a hard time falling back asleep after that (hence my suggestions above) but today I was able to do it. At 6.30 am, when the real wake up happened, I shoved Ryan out of bed to deal with it. And I fell back asleep again! At 7 am, Julian ran into my room announcing, WAKE UP MOMMY! I told him to go find Scarlett and Daddy. Again, the sleep fairies smiled on me. They all left me alone until 7.50 when my body was finally ready to face the day. Hooray! Would I have liked to have been completely asleep between 5.40 and 7.50? Of course! But that is not my life right now.

And my friend Karen who routinely sleeps past 9 am can SUCKIT with her tales of weekend risings that happen at 11.30 am.

I second this idea – I do it all the time! It feels so great to get back into bed, pull up the covers and doze off!

But Whitney, you have the joy of raising 2 lovely children while ALL I HAVE is… sleeping in sometimes. And let’s face it, by the time I have kids your kids will already be teenagers who sleep all day and all night, so you can look forward to rubbing it in my face then!

I wish someone had told me this when my babies were newborns. Or maybe they did, and I was too sleep-deprived to hear them? I agree…a well-rested mama, is a happy mama!
