Handmade Halloween costumes for babies are my weakness. Some girls like diamonds or Coach bags. Whatever.
From etsy, this incredible Max suit for lovers of Where the Wild Things Are, is made by katesy.
This DIY owl knocks my socks off. I love the fabrics in the feathers. Instructions on Alphamom.
You know I have a thing for chick superheroes. Apparently so does smallforbig. Her little super girl could not be more charming, right?
Oh wait, there’s more super kid cuteness to be had. Styling on this photo courtesy of etsy cape-seller craftymamaky. Snapsuit atop tights layered with sock fragments, paired with shiny waistband? Kapow!
I put Scarlett in this same costume back in 2007, but did not think to add a boombox. Homemade by Jill has taken it to a new level with her felt accessory, and I love it.
Swoon! This costume is enough to make me want to have another baby. A baby that will drive me to find a sweater at a thrift store that looks like a sock monkey and … just, wow. Grosgrain Fabulous is the talent behind this beautiful baby and wonderful sock monkey costume.
So which of these fabulous handmade costumes is your favorite?

The owl costume is from Alphamom:

I used the template to make a modified version for my baby’s first Halloween last year!
Thanks, Dawn! I added the link.

Where The Wild Things Are
Sorry, anything that even implies blackface is still not OK. Kinda gives me the creeps and the ickies. Still too soon America.
Oh my, Berto. An old boyfriend just sent me a note on FB saying the same thing. I didn’t see it that way at all, but now I sure do! My apologies!
PS I’ve removed the picture of Mr T. I don’t want to give anyone the ickies.
Thank you, Carmen! I will update the link.
I am digging that owl costume. I am not a crafty mom. If it can be glued, rather than sewed, I’m in.
Cutest costumes ever! I am definitely inspired…little Z will be going as a super hero girl. How fun.
Betsy, I’m pretty sure it can be glued. Just take an old sweatshirt and glue the “feathers” to it. Comfy and easy to put on!
I love these costumes. As I wrote on FB, my 3 yr old son wants to be a rocket and my 6 yr old daughter wants to be a ladybug and they both want to make their costumes. I am terribly uncrafty. But now I have some inspiration!
Absolutely in love with the Max costume! The boy wearing it looks like he’s about ready to be King of the Wild Things, too…
Oh my amazing! I cannot wait for my little man to be born, I am thinking that sock monkey is a must!
I’m organizing an event that saves a lot of money – Los Angeles Costume Swap – its fun and saves money as well as your local environment.
Some alternative trick-or-treat items you can give
gently used books – yours or you can buy at your local Friends of the Library sale
Mini comics you can buy from comic stores
$1 comics from various stores
$1 coupons from any Eco-friendly store
Surf Sweets – sugar free candy – really yummy candy
Make crafts with your kids and hand those out
Have a Halloween yard party where you decorate your yard and then have a photo booth set up and email the photo directly to their parent(s)
If your not in the LA area you can find a costume swap near you at http://www.costumeswapday.com
