The best gift I ever got growing up was a dryer box full of thrift store dresses. It had a couple wedding dresses, and a bunch of other old prom/bridesmaid dresses. I don’t think my mom did much to any of them besides cut the hems on some, and help me harness up the others with pins, but I played with those dresses for years………..that box was definitely the most memorable gift I can remember getting.

When I was growing up in Japan back in the 80s, department stores would rent out wedding dresses then sell them super cheap when they were out of fashion or a bit too worn – my mom would buy me one or two for my dressing up box every so often. My love of sparkly, lacey, totally OTT dresses has never gone away
