I recently found myself describing DUPLOs as the “gateway LEGO.” The are the perfect intro to construction for chubby-fisted toddlers and the parents who can’t wait til they’re old enough to play with the real thing. Our family’s first set was a Bob the Builder bundle from my sister-in-law. We built it to the package specifications exactly once, and since then, have continuously used it to invent new structures for the last four years. Talk about a toy that lasts.
We are excited to offer an amazing prize package of four sets of DUPLO for one lucky family (approximately $140 value).
In addition to the Horse Stables and the Big Farm (pictured), we are throwing in the Farm Nursery set (baby lamb, foal and kitten with a little farm girl) and an 80-piece DUPLO Building Fun set (AKA a big box of building bricks) so you can create anything you want!
DUPLO blocks are recommended for ages 18 months to 5 years. They get plenty of play in my house when we want to build something HUGE.
How to win:
Comment below sharing something you or your partner just couldn’t wait for your baby to be ready to do. (Ride a bike, calculus, swim? Anything goes…it was playing with tiny Legos and Transformers in my house!). We’ll choose a winner on December 15, 2010 from all applicable entries.

Disclosure: We are working with the good folks at LEGO this holiday season and they provided this awesome prize package for one of our readers. We hope you love it as much as we do!

Right now I just can’t wait for my baby girl to arrive! She’ll be here in 7 weeks and I’m so impatient!
well, my husband is quite impatient for our 2 year old to start doing fancy science projects, and I can’t wait to have him potty trained!
Funny I should see this today…we have been waiting for our three year old to be big enough for legos. My husband saved all of his from his childhood. He was so eager that they got them down from the attic this past weekend. My son has been playing with them nonstop, but doesn’t quite have the skill yet. We need some DUPLO sets!
Its a long ways off . . . but I can’t wait for my 2 year old to start teaching me about the world. To tell me about something that he has become expert in. He’s already a proficient Duplo user and we could really use some more to keep his interest focused on legos until he’s ready for the little ones in a year or so.
We cannot wait for our son (3 months old) to sit up. He has two big brothers (2 & 3 years old) who are anxious for baby to play with them!
Hubby and I can’t wait until our little one is big enough to go hiking with us. She rides in her carrier now, but we can’t wait until those chubby little legs are strong enough for her to actually walk the trails!
I couldn’t wait for my son to sleep through the night!
Seriously, though, I’m looking forward to teaching him how to bake and cook and also working on those science fair projects, which I loved as a kid!
Actually, I can’t wait until he’s old enough to play with Legos! My DH and I both played with Legos as kids. I remember spending hours building houses. What fun. But, he’s a few years off from actual Legos!
Great giveaway!
When my son was born, I couldn’t wait for him to start talking, saying anything! Now I’m very careful what I wish for, as his favourite word is NO (toddler). My baby girl was a miracle child and I’m trying not to wish ahead and just enjoy every moment
we always talk to about being excited when our two year old learns to ride a bike… obviously still a few years away! pick me! pick me!
I couldn’t wait for my baby to learn how to talk, and now I wish she’d give me just 2 minutes of silence! On a cuter note, my husband can’t wait until she’s old enough to go out stargazing at midnight with him.
Well, my husband and I have two very different perspectives on what we are waiting for our 18mo old daughter to be able to do. I can’t wait until she learns to read words. She loves books and will sit next to our dog “reading” picture books to her. My husband on the other hand cannot wait until her head fits a motorcycle helmet and can safely be a passenger. He is a motorcycle enthusiast and our daughter already shares his passion – becoming very excited when she sees motorcycles. Well see about my husband’s choice
Dang! That’s a nice Lego set!
I couldn’t wait for my kids to talk. I love knowing what’s going on inside their heads.
I can’t wait to take my kid snowtubing. I’m not a huge fan of winter or snow, but tubing should be a great activity for the whole family!
My daughter also loves horses! She rode on a pony 3 times and is so proud of herself!
I really looked forward to taking my son to the park and blowing bubbles with him. He’s never loved it as much as I do but it’s now one of my favorite memories of him.
Play with Matchbox cars
Walk on his own. He was getting heavy!
Go fishing (I’m still waiting!)
my husband can’t wait until my two sons – 4 and 15 months can play 3 on 3 with him in the backyard. I can’t wait to snuggle with my kids on a winter day and read chapter books
Currently we can’t wait until our 18-month-old can talk in complete sentences! I know, once he starts talking we’ll wish he shuts up, right?
Also I can’t wait to have him be my kitchen apprentice!
I can’t wait for my baby to smile at me! She’s only a week old right now.
I can’t wait for everything. Whatever the next milestone is, I can’t wait to get there!! Now, it’s moving him into his big boy bed, which will probaby happen in the next month or so.
Feed herself! LOL. Now sometimes she says “feed my like a baby mommy”. haha
Saying their prayers! Is there anything cuter than a little one praying?
We can’t wait for our daughter to go fishing with us and catch her first fish!
Looking forward to receiving art projects from school!
I am so incredibly anxious for my two little ones (ages 2 and 3) to start drawing people! oh my gosh, it is so cute to see the giant heads with arms and legs that only a child could draw or even imagine! I’m sure my fridge will be covered, because every little picture they draw will be so precious to me!
Read a book on his own. Still working on it–he’s only 2.
Enjoy playing long Strategy games like RISK.
I can’t wait for our little guy to be old enough to enjoy vintage Sesame Street!
I can’t wait for my daughter to use the pedals on her bike instead of just using her feet to push forward. I know she knows what to do, she just won’t do it! Oh well…all in good time I suppose.
My brother is a LEGO enthusiast, and even went to Denmark this fall to go the THE LEGOland. He is a computer programmer, and wrote a database programme to track his LEGO inventory (Over 100,000 pieces I believe…). THE milestone is ‘When are they ready for LEGO’. We have regular, DUPLO, and QUADRO in this house, and did you know that they can be built together? Our 3yr old is getting his first set of regular LEGO this Christmas, since he is always playing with this 10 yr old brother’s. The 1yr old is getting his first DUPLO.
Walk, talk, throw overhand… he taught him that last one months early, and my forehead has been paying ever since!
My partner could not wait to feed our daughter food. He’s been showing her sandwiches and pizza and talking about bacon and ice cream since before she was born. On Thanksgiving, he fed her applesauce (her first food at almost 5 months), and now she is ravenous and in love with everything that goes into our mouths.
I can’t wait to sit at a coffee shop and have a conversation over something warm and toasty with my daughter.
We were super excited for our son to be able to play the Wii, now he won’t stop!
There are so many things! It makes it easier to say good-bye to each cute baby stage as I think about what I have to look forward to with my daughter. Anyways, the thing that comes to mind first is going to the pool, which I started looking forward to as a huge preggo in summer 2009. And my girl is quite the water baby, so we got that one down! Now I’m really looking forward to her playing make believe.
We can’t wait for our daughter to make us our New Year’s Eve dinner – a tradition going back to my brothers and me who took great pride in cooking those frozen dinners and serving them to our parents on the fanciest plates we could find.
When our son was born, we couldn’t wait to get him into a baby pool. So one hot and humid day when he was 3 months old, we bought a baby pool and put him in it. The water was freezing and our neighbors thought we were crazy but our guy liked it OK and we were excited to get in it and cool off.
Early exposure must have worked because he loves water and the pool and the sprinkler and the baby pool and the beach and all of it.
We can’t wait for our precious 4 month little girl (2 month preemie) to do whatever it is she is ready to do next! As long as she continues to be healthy and thrive as wonderfully as she has been, we’ll take it!! If we were to get picky…I’d pick to hear her first belly laugh next
My hubby is so excited for our boys to be big enough for remote control cars. They were his favorite as a kid and he can’t wait to get to buy them again! I was excited for Little People, they were my favorite as a kid, now they are taking over our house since our 2 year old likes them so much too. The next big thing for us will be legos. I was looking at them yesterday at TRU and trying to decide if 4 and up and 5 and up really means that or if a 2 year old might be able to make them work. Duplos really do look like the answer to that problem!
Surfing! We can’t wait until his Daddy can teach him to surf just like his dad taught him.
I couldn’t wait to be able to go run wild at the park, have picnics, and splash in the fountain with my daughter. And now that she can do all those things I am happy to report that they are just as fun as I always imagined they would be!
With our 4-year-old, we felt like we didn’t have to wait for anything! He did everything early and well, and we did everything with him that we could! Now, we’d love for him to not need Pull-Ups at all. TONIGHT, he got up for the very first time to pee in the middle of the night! So proud!
Our 2 1/2-year-old has had a rougher road. He has several disabilities that have held him back from typical development, so we’ve waited for long periods for him to be able to do very basic things. We’re still waiting on most of those things, but each little step in the right direction has been reason for celebration! He has just been able to start playing a little more, and he went right for the Duplos! We have just a handful, but he LOVES them, putting them together and undoing them, just to rebuild. He would freak out over this set! Also, I’ve rediscovered my own love of Duplos.
I couldn’t wait for every new phase of my babies development!
Now I wish I could have them back little. They’ve all grown up, but they’ll always be my babies!
lol my husband LOVES Legos, so he can’t wait for our daughter to want to sit and “build” Legos with him! (rather than chew on them lol)
My husband can’t wait until our little ones can play sports! Especially soccer, for some reason…
We can’t wait for our little one to be able to go camping with us and enjoy it!
Wipe her own bottom! I hate potty training!
With my first, I could wait for him to talk. I was aching to know what thoughts were going through his head! Now that I’m on my fourth … sitting up would be great!
