I am ready for a whole new wardrobe. I don’t know if I’ll go on a shopping spree in six months (for my birthday) or twelve months (like my OB recommended), but I’m planning to toss out all my clothes and emerge like a butterfly when the baby weight is gone. Unrealistic? Maybe.
I virtually sat down with Liza from www.blahggy.com to talk about fashion and body changes after baby for this new mama momversation. Yes, I am wearing a girdle.
What about you? What are your favorite clothes when you want to look great? Are they different than pre-baby?

I have found that a good pair of jeans (non-maternity) in a post-delivery, pre-weigh loss size has been essential in feeling the most normal that I can post-baby. Yes, you will only fit in these jeans for a couple of months, but I think it is soooo worth it to feel confident, beautiful and put together in those first few months, even if you do have spit-up all over your shirt
I agree with Marelize. I bought some clearance Old Navy jeans and work pants in the new size I was 3 months post-partum so that I could wear non-maternity clothes but clothes that fit me.
I started marathon training when my son was about 4 months old, so now that he’s 1, I am actually below my pre-pregnancy weight, but the shape of my body is different enough now that I still can’t fit into some of my pre-baby jeans. And I’m trying to realize that it’s okay and I have plenty of time and it isn’t a big deal, but it’s hard to see celebrities touted as getting back to pre-baby bodies when I feel like mine is different forever and ever.
I agree with Marelize. A good pair of jeans that fit your current shape are a must. And casual dresses can be a fun way to express yourself without having to confront the tummy just yet. I’d probably stay in sweats more if I didn’t have a company to run. (I have a new little boy – 4 wks old. Crazy, fun, blurry, beautiful time!)
A week ago I started tracking food & exercise (MyFitnessPal.com – great iPhone app too). I have lost 2-3 lbs this last week. I’m struggling to ignore the big tub of chocolate chip cookie dough in the fridge though! Could start a private MFP group with friends — or other post-baby mommies — to encourage each other. I’m thinking about this myself.
I love this video! Thanks for sharing so openly about a hot topic issue. I have an 18 month old (my second child) and I am just starting to get back into my old clothes… one pair of pants at a time. I work out of the home full time and I just don’t feel like I have time to work out and still have the time I want with my kids at the end of the day. I hate that I look at other mom’s and have body envy but I think that is reality for a lot of us mom’s. One thing that has helped me lose some weight is not eating after 7pm. I can’t believe what a difference that made for me getting back into a few pair of pants. I am not back to all my clothes but I am dreaming of the day
what looks good on me post baby is VERY different than before baby. before i wore tight things on top, now it’s reversed! my baby is 6 months and although i have 10 lb.s to go, i still am feeling better than 3 months ago (keeping in mind i gained 50!!)

After my first, the weight pretty much dropped off. Didn’t do anything but walk the dog every day and breast feed, and was down to my pre-pregnancy weight (the distributed differently) by the time I returned to work at 12 weeks (even though I kept eating like I was pregnant). Then I started exercising like crazy and lost another 20 lbs. But, I’m discovering that the second baby weight to be much more stubborn.
The past month, I’ve once again embraced my gym addiction (they have awesome child care there!!), and started using the Lose It! iPhone ap. I’ve lost 8 lbs. in the past month! The ap makes it easy to find your daily calorie goal, and track exercise and calories to make sure you’re not over eating. It’s great!
(FTR, when I reach my goal weight, which is well below even my pre-pregnancy weight, my hubby and I agreed that it’s worth it to pull from savings to get me a whole new wardrobe. Between that and not wanting to look like a whale as a bridesmaid at a wedding this summer, I’ve got LOTS of motivation!!)
I agree with Marelize – getting a new pair of jeans that fit properly, (not my maternity jeans that sagged in the butt!) and new shoes (a must after my swollen feet went back to normal) was a turning point for me. it really helped me feel less frumpy and dumpy. My daughter is 13 months old now and I gained 53lbs with her (ugh!). I still have 20lbs left to get to my pre-baby weight and I’m a work in progress.
Juggling a new baby, a 3.5hr round trip commute to work and grad school has been challenging but I’m persevering through it and giving myself more time to lose these last stubborn pounds. My type A personality has had a rough adjustment to my new life as a mom…and limited personal time. You ladies are inspiring me to keep going so looking forward to dropping at least one size by my birthday at Thanksgiving!!!
Cheers!
