Activity #555: Wear Sexy Jeans (Apply the Hand-Grab Rule)

in Mommy, Quickie

It’s February! Time for romance (says Hallmark). We’re going to try to provide a little inspiration for prioritizing the sexy aspects of your life with romance and self-esteem boosting activities this month. Today, we kick off a series of guest posts from Shana of Ain’t No Mom Jeans.  (If you missed her series on sweatsuit alternatives, start here.) And now, I’ll let Shana take it away:

I’m always astounded by the number of extremely attractive moms who still wear jeans that are baggy in the bum. (Editor’s note: GUILTY!) I’m not sure if it’s a holdover from saggy-bum maternity pants, but seriously.  It’s really, really, really hard to feel sexy in saggy-bum jeans.  So apply the Hand-Grab rule:

  • Put on your jeans.
  • Recruit your most honest girlfriend to grab your bum.
  • If she can grab a handful of jean (or anything close to a handful of jean), then your jeans are too saggy in the bum.  It’s time for new jeans.

If you absolutely hate tight jeans, then I suggest you try jeans with sophisticated bum styling like Hudson’s Signature Bootcut Jeans, True Religion Jeans, or William Rast Jeans.  These jeans have seams and/or pockets strategically located to make your bum look good, even when buying a size up.

Look for more sexy tips from Shana next week!

Too cheap for Shana’s jean suggestions? We think it’s ok to go to Old Navy for your first pair of post-partum jeans.

OK, so here’s my challenge. I’m 5′9″, 160 lbs, and apple shaped. Small hips and butt, nice long skinny legs, no waist whatsoever. And 6 mos post-partum with number two it’s still not good in the waist/tummy area. I HATE muffin top, but I hate plumbers crack even more. Short rise jeans are impossible, but higher rise ones don’t fit around my middle. The obvious answer is lose weight. But even at good times, it seems I’m condemned to lower-rise jeans in a size up – they fit ok above but the backside is SO SAGGY. I hate it!

Also, I’m poor.

Suggestions?

1. I follow Ain’t No Mom Jeans religously since her series here last time– so nice to have Shana back!

2. There is SO much to be said for a great pair of jeans. Really. Find out when Macy’s has their sales (or hit up the Nordstrom semi-annual) and really invest in a good pair. I was a faithful Joe’s wearer until this year when I discovered Hudsons. If you go with Hudsons though, get them *really* tight because they do loosen up. I wish I had gone with a smaller size.

I bought my first “post baby” jeans from Old Navy at Christmas. On sale for $15! They fit nicely although they have loosened up a little and I’m almost wishing I had gone with a smaller size. I got the “sweetheart” style. Very comfy.

Jeans. All I have to say about that is… ughhh! This post is so appropriate for me right now! I wore my maternity jeans probably a little longer than I should have. I just kept thinking why buy “big” jeans? However there comes a point where you must. So, I caved. Within weeks those were too big. Now my pre-pregnancy jeans are also too big… in the butt! Where oh where did my butt go?! I know complaining about your clothes being too big isn’t the worst thing possible to happen to you, but it’s so annoying! Especially since now all I have are jeans with saggy butts. Wish I could take some of that thigh to fill out my seat! Ick- jeans shopping will be in my future soon. (And bathing suit shopping is probably the only thing I hate more!)

Great site BTW, so glad I found you!!!

I’ve got comfy, well broken in Abercrombie jeans that are great for everyday wear…then I’ve got my sexy, no saggy bum White House Black Market jeans, love em!

Vanessa – I feel your pain. I am also lacking a waist, but am OK with the whole hips/butt/legs thing. But the waist is tough, and only 6 months postpartum? Yes, I definitely still had a muffin top. I have a few ideas (and am trying to keep them affordable):
1. Try high-waisted jeans. I know, I know – but they were a lifesaver for me. I just zipped that muffin top right in. I actually just did an article on this topic, so check it out here: http://www.aintnomomjeans.com/2010/02/strategiestoavoidlookingpreggoafterbaby.html
For a cheaper high-waisted jean, I’m loving Forever 21’s here: http://www.forever21.com/product.asp?catalog_name=FOREVER21&category_name=btms_jeans&product_id=2065344831&page=1&trend=&fit=
2. I like Hudson jean’s styling for reducing the muffin top. Their waistband is very thick and just high enough. Gap’s new line, however, has styled their “Perfect Bootcut” in a very similar fashion. Check it out: http://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=48594&vid=1&pid=673946
3. Lastly, if you haven’t tried mytruefit.com, they do a pretty good job of narrowing down your jean selection based on your actual measurements and fit preferences. Sign up on the site, and they’ll walk you through entering your exact measurements. And they have a pretty wide selection in terms of price. http://www.mytruefit.com/jeans/
Hope that helps!

But wait! What about that new “boyfriend” style? I think those are so cute. I just swallowed my pride and got them in a sz 10 (I am 4 weeks PP and was an 8 pre-preg). I feel like I did when my husband and I were just dating and I’d do the walk of shame back home in the am… haha!
