“Is that a travel Boppy?” the other mom said to me with obvious envy. We had both just emerged from a five-hour flight, I with my three sons and she with her nine-month old. I nodded as I jiggled Sawyer in the front carrier and tried to get the bigger boys to sit still while we waited for Alec to reclaim the gate-checked stroller and car seat. [Sorry I don't have a photo of me in this scenario. Honestly, who would have taken it?]
She continued, “Wow, I just sat on this flight with him in my lap and my wrists and hands falling asleep.”
In that moment, I wanted to give her my Boppy travel pillow (available for order at babiesrus.com) to save a rookie mom from the plight of not being able to adjust her arms during a cross-country flight for fear of waking a sleeping baby. But I also want to save it for myself for next time. Sorry, lady.
Folded, about the size of a big purse, but super light
Yes, it’s just one more thing to carry. But it’s a really lightweight thing that has a strap and easily clips to other things. Once you make it onto the airplane, it unfolds into a nearly full-size nursing pillow that can clip around your waist giving the babe a comfy place to lay down.
Open, about the size of a regular Boppy but squishier
Great for new moms who need a nursing pillow on a trip or any baby mama who doesn’t buy an airplane seat for the kiddo.
Disclosure:
Thanks to Boppy for sending me one to test and one for a reader giveaway.

I would love this. I could always use a third hand doing anything around the house but especially laundry and the dishes while I hold my baby
How awesome! I am about to move cross country with a newborn and 2 year old. These would rock!!
I would have loved this on our recent trip to Disney with my infant son. But I’d be happy to have it going forward for other travels.
I think I would love a third hand the most when putting on make up and brushing my sons teeth at the same time. A third hand would allow me to put on deoderant too!
I have 3 kids and they are all under 5 the youngest is one and we are prego again!
so much fun. And this would help when we travel!
Love the giveaway

I would have loved this in my travels from Houston to Nashville twice a month while I got my masters degree with my 11 week old (he has boarded 38 flights in his little life)! Now successfully graduated and my now 19 month old is still happily breastfeeding! We made do with tons of pillows in the hotel but I really missed my boppy. Such a cool invention!!!
I think traveling alone is definitely when any mom needs a third hand. I took my three month old daughter on a businesses trip because I was still nursing. Would have loved to have my boppy. Fortunately my mom served as my extra hands on that trip. Now I am expecting my second baby and I’m wondering how many extra hands I will need for two little ones under the age of two!
I just moved to a new town, with a new OB, new everything. I am due Feb 2 and have two trips planned before the babe is 6 months old! I would love to have this.
I travel alone often with my now 6-month old son. We have another flight coming up at the end of the month and I will definitely need a third (and fourth) hand!
When he loses his Nuk in the car!!!
WOW this is so cool! I didn’t even know they made travel Boppys! It should would have made our flight for Christmas easier! Or some of the several trips that we make across the state!
i just flew from to l.a. and i’m about to fly to alaska please please please i need this!
I could use a 3rd hand anytime I go out with my 5 4 and 1 year old grocery shopping post office anywhere I could hold the baby and each of my child’s hands oh how nice it would be lol
I wish I had one during the first trip to the doctors office – ALONE! When my son was born he was having trouble gaining weight. So three times a week he had to be weighed at the doctors. The doctor was a one hour drive from my house, as I live in the country. When he was three weeks old, I had to go to the doctor alone. First of all, my son did not like being dirty from day one. So, while waiting in the doctors office, my son goes poop. He starts screaming. Then he turns towards my chest to nurse. The doctors office is full, and I am waiting to be called. I have all my paperwork I had to carry for him, my diaper bag and my purse. I broke my tailbone having my son and he was just to heavy to hold on my own. So I made a pillow out of the diaper bag and my purse, and put him on top of it. I gave him the bottle, just so he would quiet down until he could be changed in the office. That is when he decided to spit out the bottle he so desperately needed, because he was not comfortable on my cold purse. And his spit landed all over his paperwork. The boppy pillow would’ve saved me – then and at home with my broken tailbone. Definietly need to invest in one for the next baby!
I didn’t know there was a travel Boppy either! SO COOL! Would make my 4-month-old’s trip to TX in a couple to visit grandparents a whole lot easier! Will be traveling with our 4-year-old, too, so should be interesting.
Id love to have a third hand when I’m trying to feed the baby with one arm, feed my own starving self (because it’s 2pm and all I’ve had time for all day is a luke warm cup of decaf coffee) and my toddler tries to hand me a book to read. Or when I’m trying to shield the baby’s head from his rowdy big brother.
A travel Boppy would be a dream come true! We are taking a trip in March with two under 2… Not only for our flight but for our stay as well!
Taking my six month old son on our first flight. Five hours… Would love to have the travel boppy for his comfort and mine!
When my son was born our lives changed so much. We transitioned from a 1 child family to a 2 child family. My son is 2 1/2 and are now preparing to be a three child family while my husband moves to Sacramento to start a new position within his company while we stay in southern CA for a while. We will have quite a bit of back and forth until we are all settled so a bopy travel pillow would be perfect.
Getting ready to have a “Big Chill” weekend in VA with some college friends. I’ve never mastered the art of breastfeeding without a pillow of some sort, so I ALWAYS need a third hand when I’m not sitting at home.
i have always wished i had a third hand on airplanes and in airports.. i feel like there is always something that needs to be held onto that i just cant grab.. too many drinks in my lap or lost toys bc i just oculdnt hold it all!
I flew with my son around the holidays this year. It was his first flight and I was by myself with him. Our first flight was delayed which meant we were going to have to move fast to get our connection. I checked his carseat at the gate and of course they wait and pull it off last. Then I get into the airport and put Moby on and get him in. So I have a backpack on my back, son in Moby and carrying a carseat. Would have loved to have a 3rd and 4th arm here. He was great through this whole ordeal. So off I go walking as fast as possible with one arm sort of holding him with Moby and 1 carrying a heavy carseat rushing through the airport. Of course we have to be in another terminal that requires you to take a shuttle bus. Finally get on the bus who seems to be driving as slow as possible. Then we are back on foot to our gate, . . . get there and rude lady says, “the plane is gone”. We probably missed by 5 minutes. So of course I had to break down in tears for a minute and after I collected myself we booked the next flight for 2 hours later. My son was amazing through all this, but I would have loved some more hands
We are flying again in a month on a much longer flight to LA and then Hawaii and would love this travel Boppy. I’ve already been stressing about how I’m going to fit his full sized one in our carryon. It would be great to have on the plane!
I think a third hand would come in handy when I am cleaning, holding a baby and trying to keep up with my 3 year old.
I’ll be having my first baby in May so no experience with needing a third hand, but I’m guessing it would come in handy after a diaper explosion.
This sounds like a great idea! I love my regular boppy, a travel one would be great! I just found your site…I love it! Thanks for supporting moms everywhere!
Love this!! I travel with my daughter all the time and have needed this so many times. It’s especially tough on flights because waking baby means your fellow passengers aren’t too thrilled. Thank you for this article as well as everything else you help educate us new mommies on. You rock – keep up the great work!
My 2mo old daughter and I traveled cross country last month and I regretted leaving my boppy behind from the start! I ended up buying a second one once we got to DC and brought it on the way back. I had no idea there were travel boppies or I would have bought that instead since they’re less bulky. It was so much better to let her lie on that on the plane than holding her for 4 hours, and easier to feed her too!
Would love to win this for my wife, I know she’d love this and it would help a lot with our two girls!
I could have used a third (and 4th) hand last weekend when my MIL was visiting to cover my ears so I didn’t have to hear all her “helpful suggestions!” grrrr
The other day I was just getting out of the shower when my daughter woke up from a nap screaming. As I ran over to her, naked mind you, my cat starts dry heaving and proceeds to throw up and then UPS rings the doorbell…3 hands would have been nice.
