A local friend of mine, Jackie, has two little kids and has a sharp eye for the visually beautiful. Just look at her house.
She recently blogged that a turkey baster is the key to making pancake batter into fun shapes. I was thrilled to learn this hack because I had been ordered to make Mickey Mouse pancakes last night, and I felt a little bummed out that I couldn’t raise the bar beyond Mickey Mouse. So Mickey they ate – but watch out, kids. Next weekend: alphabet letters!

This. Is. AWESOME.
I might be more excited about this than my kids and am going to try it out tomorrow morning. Thanks for sharing!
I tried a turkey baster last week. It just doesn’t hold as much batter as is helpful and it goes very slow.
That is a cute idea!! When my kiddo gets old enough to actually eat solids I’ll definitely have to try it!
ooooo…i want to try this! he thinks he likes circle pancakes, wait’ll he sees this! Thanks!
Cool. My husband liked the idea so much he may try it (AKA COOK!!!) I will owe you forever if that happens.
I can’t wait to try this.
That is exceptionally cool. I don’t know if I’d be that ambitious, but I can see how kids would just love “eating their ABCs.” I know our 2-year-old would get a kick out of it.
Since some of the letters can be hard to flip, my mom used to pour the letter on the griddle, wait for a couple of seconds, and then pour a regular circle pancake on top. The letter was clearly visible in the pancake and it was much easier for her to manage enough pancakes for my three brothers and me. Just make sure you pour the non-symmetric letters, like G, B, E, R, etc… backwards otherwise they will be in reverse after the flip.
I saw a similar trick on Rachael Ray a while back, she uses a washed out squeeze ketchup (or mustard, or whatever) bottle to hold the batter. It holds a lot more, and might be a little easier to control.
I’ve been asked to make everything from bears to letters and dinosaurs, and the bottle is much easier than the measuring cup!
Great idea – we make pancakes weekly. My little girl would love these.
Thanks for sharing – came from Crafty Crow
this is so cute. my kids love when we make shapes. i have never thought to make the whole alphabet.
