We went to a restaurant tonight and my baby was perfectly behaved and stayed very clean...we ate at 5 and were on our way out at 7 when a man came to our table and said "you are very annoying bringing a baby here, get a sitter". It was very upsetting. But I will still bring her out! Thanks for the tips!!

That's great! Good tips! Is it wrong that our child is perfectly behaved in any restaurant since she goes out once a week? Is that bad parenting...just kidding. Really, we do most of what you had on the list and also bring our own milk, high-chair cover and crayons just in case they don't have them.

i've found kiddopotamus products to be very helpful. they have a bib with a catch-all and a portable placemat. both wipe clean. helps to keep things a little neater. her high-chair cover tends to catch stuff too. only, this can work against us when we pull her out and the items we never saw her storing go flying across the room ;)

We occasionally take our two young children (2, 5) to nicer restaurants. And we ALWAYS make the first seating (5:30, 6). And we request to sit near the kitchen where it is 1) noisier, and 2) full of activity to keep the kids occupied.

For our annivesary, we brought the kids to Zuni Cafe. We made it through the 75 minute dinner by:
1) sitting upstairs over the kitchen and oyster bar (a good 15 minutes of people watching/commenting)
2) drawing on the table with crayons (the table was covered with butcher paper) - lasted all of 10 minutes
3) 2 trips to the bathroom, via the crowded bar (10 minutes)
4) eating bread, dipping in olive oil, spreading butter (10 minutes)
5) ordering periwinkles and trying to get the little snails out of their shells (a TOTAL hit - 15 minutes)
6) actually eating the meal (15 minutes)

thx for the T-Rex tip. It's been on our list but good to know it's manageable with a little one! (We went to Lalimes as a couple for our wedding anniversary recently -- same owners as T-Rex.)

This is a great list! Somehow when we had three kids it wasn't as much fun anymore to eat out. Too long to wait for tables to seat five, grownups outnumbered, etc. But the cafeteria did become a place where everyone could get what they wanted and I felt they got a healthy meal.
