If you are just tuning in to our three-part series about what you can wear besides your yoga pants and running shoes, please do read Shana’s prequel to get inspired.
Today our fashion guru brings us a third recommendation for a casual, yet appropriate for appearing in public, outfit.

Destroyed Denim + Black Turtleneck
The quickest way to channel Audrey Hepburn is to pull your hair up into a ponytail, throw on a chic black turtleneck and black ballet flats. For this season, I especially love this look paired with destroyed denim, but really, any cute jean will do. Destroyed denim will take this look in a more fashion-y direction, and the contrast of the prim black top with the worn jeans is a great mix. The best part is that black is slimming, looks good on everyone, and always looks expensive.
My all-time favorite turtleneck is J. Crew’s Tissue Turtleneck, $39.50
Pictured on Shana (above) are Gap’s Cropped Boyfriend Jean in Destroyed, Me Too black ballet flats, and J. Crew’s Tissue Turtleneck in black. Pictured on the babe are Imps & Elves Cuffed Jeans, Kingston’s Einstein tee, and white Pumas.

Can I just say that you should avoid turtlenecks if you have large breasts (like me). You’ll just look like you’re all boob!
Sarah, I also avoid the turtleneck due to the large book/short torso situation!
I am finding it much easier to get my fashion mojo going now that’s it’s getting cooler out. A sweater. A scarf. Some red shoes. I’m ready for People Magazine.
I don’t have a boob situation, but I am very tall… so finding a longer turtle neck (with equally long sleeves) is my challenge. I’ll have to head over to ANMJ to look for suggestions.
turtlenecks also look awful on me, but the distressed denim is a great look!
Hey Gang – thanks for the feedback! You are totally right – large chests should avoid turtlenecks. However, you can get the same vibe (but in a more flattering way) by swapping the turtleneck out for a cowl-neck. Cowl-necks are are super flattering for busty gals! Ann Taylor (and Ann Taylor Loft) have great ones at the moment.

Tegan and Tage — I forgot to mention a few options for you! I’m NOT tall, but do (oddly enough) have very long arms. Seriously long goon arms. The J.Crew tissue turtleneck’s are decently long, it might be worth a shot, but the one turtleneck that I KNOW will work is Theory’s Elizabeth turtleneck. It’s super lightweight, has great drape, and is very long in both the body and the arms. It’s expensive, however….around $80. I’m having trouble finding a black one at the moment, but South Moon Under has a charcoal version. They usually come out with new colors every winter, so keep your eyes open!

yes I am wearing yoga pants and running shoes right now as I’m reading this.. haha
I love the bag! Where is it from?
Hi Marci! The bag is Marc Jacob’s “Pretty Nylon Hobo” from a couple of years ago. They’ve since changed the styling somewhat (I think the hobo is now smaller) and have come out with a HUGE tote. Norstroms carries both, or you should be able to find it by googling “marc jacobs pretty nylon”.

I have loved every single suggestion, now I just need to confidence to dress up a little in public
Fashion is not my forté. Also, what about some love for the, um, curvy girls? Like, say, the one with some badass hips?
Oooo….Elizabeth – I’d love to take that on! Let me do a little research and work on another post for girls with “badass hips”!

ps. Fashion should (hopefully) be fun. That said, I often end up in an outfit that bombs. Oh, well. Live and laugh. I learn more from mistakes, anyway.
i’d love to know the brand and style of her bag
