Last year, you guys seemed to really like the opportunity to win books from Barefoot Books, so I asked them to give us another chance to giveaway books. In the post-holiday reflections on STUFF, it feels really nice to give away BOOKS. Though you do have to put them away and decide carefully how to add to your collection, they hold their value for much longer than other playthings, don’t you think?
In honor of Chinese New Year on January 23rd, we’re giving away a copy of The Great Race, along with four other books of the winner’s choosing from the Barefoot Books shop. I’m totally in love with the artwork of Clare Beaton who uses hand-sewn collages in her books.
(Also, did you know that if you are truly passionate about children’s books, you can become a Barefoot Books ambassador — a work-from-home sales job.)
The Great Race introduces the Chinese calendar and signs of the zodiac.
How to enter: Usually we do one entry per person, but this time we’ll do two. Get one entry for your comment telling us your child’s current favorite book, and a second entry (optional) if you click over and LIKE the Barefoot Books Facebook page and come back to comment that you have done that. (Don’t cheat — we’ll check!)
On Wednesday Jan 18, we’ll close the comments and select a winner. The winner will be able to pick four other Barefoot Books to receive from this catalog.

My almost 3-year-old son loves Dr. Seuss right now, and he’s starting to listen to longer books when we read. Maybe he’ll be ready for Harry Potter by age 4. (I wish!)
Right now, my daughter’s favorite book(s) are any ones she can grab onto and chew on (yup, she’s teething…) Mine? Loving her Curious George anthology at the moment!
My son loves anything truck related, his favorite right now is called Road Work.
My almost-2 year old daughter loves her Bad Kitty books, we are starting to read more story books instead of all board books.
My baby is about to turn 1 next week (gulp!) and she is currently into anything that involves lifting a flap or pulling a tab. Current favorites are a tie between “Where’s Spot?” and “The Color Kittens” (not a flap book but she digs the colors)

I, too, really like Clare Beaton’s books!
Right now, my son loves Catch That Goat, a barefoot book!
My 15-month-old son, Garrett, loves all his books. I’ll have to ask him which is his favorite.
I picked up “Secret Seahorse” at a rummage sale last summer, and I’m amazed at Clare Beaton’s creativity every time I open it up.
The Night Before Christmas (a voice-recorded book courtesy of grandma)
My son’s favorite books right now are anything Curious George – we currently read Curious George’s Birthday Party everyday in anticipation of his 2nd birthday (and party) next week!
The Bear in Long Underwear and Mother Goose
We have rabbits in our daughter’s room for the year of the rabbit, so I’d love to read The Great Race to her so she could learn about the other signs. Currently she seems to be a big fan of Goodnight Moon.
My little girl right now is crazy with books. The one she’s into the most rght now is Goodnighr Moon . She began loving it since she identifies and is able to name most of the things she sees!
Just liked you on facebook!
Goodnight moon, of course
I love the story of the Chinese Zodiac – particularly as someone born in the year of the wily Rat
My eldest son loves a board book called Otis by Loren Lang and the modern classic Good Night Gorilla. My younger son goes for anything he can devour.
My boy isn’t born yet, but my favorite book that I’m going to read to him from is Where the Sidewalk Ends.

My almost 2 year old has a couple rotating favorites right now “But No Elephants!” and “In Grandma’s Arm’s” – I have both memorized!
My almost 3 year old is loving the Ladybug Girl books. They have inspired her imagination during playtime as well! I love reading them as much as she does!
My 2 y.o. is obsessed with a 35-year old “Tom and Jerry” Golden Book, but when I can talk her out of it, our current favorites are “Clara and Asha” and “A Penguin Story.”
Our favorite book right now is “But No Elephants”. It was my book when I was a kid, and my mom gave it to me when I had my daughter three months ago. I love that we have it to share!
My little girl who will be 2 in April LOVES books. Her favorites these days include: Bear About Town, Goodnight Moon, Mr. Brown Can Moo, Curious George Goes to the Moon, and most alphabet or number book.
My son’s favorite books right now are Dr. Seuss! He will sit and listen to several Dr. Seuss books in a row. It will sometimes take 45 minutes or more before he gets tired of listening.

My 2.5 year old son has the typical obsessed-with-one-book thing going on every week…currently it’s a lift-the-flap book all about cars that he got for Christmas!
