@Rachel, so jealous that you have that experience of motherhood/maternity in Europe. I can attest that my little taste of Copenhagen was over-the-top baby- and family-friendly in a way that I’ve never seen here in the States. Should we all move to Denmark? Hmmm.

I enjoyed this story and the courage it takes to move and find new jobs, especially with a new wee one in the house. But I also find it so terribly sad that in the US a woman feels she must hide her maternal side for the sake of big business. It not at all “family friendly” that such measures must be taken. I felt the same way when I lived there, but now as a mother in Europe, I just can’t imagine having to deal with it. My admiration goes to all American moms – for finding the daily strength to balance the needs of motherhood with the demands of American work culture.

I’m a SAHM, but I can totally relate to the pump turning itself on (thanks for the laugh). And to all of the unexpected ways life can change after having a baby (or in my case, babies). I never would have believed that with twinfants, I’d move 1,400 miles away from all of our family and friends, but here we are, and we’re making it work.
