Do you believe in ultrasounds? If so, you can keep all your girl names because we’re expecting another boy.
Personally, I’m a little skeptical of gender-prediction based on ultrasound because I’ve heard one too many stories of families expecting a girl (with a full-on pink nursery and wardrobe) only to be greeted by a boy who was shy during his prenatal scans.
We’re surprised and delighted to be welcoming another boy into our family. He has two adoring brothers and a houseful of fun toys waiting for him.
In the next few months, I’ll be looking for tips and tricks from experienced moms of lots of boys to see what I can learn. I may also need to join or start a club for outnumbered mamas.
Have you heard of an ultrasound suggesting one gender and the baby arrived as the other? What happened to the parents?
ps Apologies if you find the ultrasound picture a little creepy. Be thankful I didn’t show the “I’m a boy” version!

I mentioned this to Laurel the other day (where did I see you post… Twitter, FB? Anyway…) she said “OH BOY, she’s in for it!”
Congrats friend. Whether or not the ultrasound is right, you will be a marvelous mama of three.
An old friend was told his 2nd daughter was going to be a boy. Oh well, they named her Nikky anyway (“he” was going to be Nicholas but turned out to be a Nicole).
Good luck with three boys. I’d start putting away a little extra for groceries NOW!!
Congrats from another mom of 3 boys!! Mine are ages 7, 5 and 1. I found out with the last 2 and both ultrasounds were correct. But both times even WE could clearly see the “junk”! Having 3 boys is fun, really fun… there was a moment at the ultrasound when tears stung my eyes but only for about 5 seconds. Sure it would be cool to have a girl someday but I just adore my family of all boys!!!
My husband and I were actually told that we were having a boy early on, but on a later ultrasound the tech was sitting there looking and said “So they told you it was a boy last time right? Cuz those are girl parts…” We were going to name him Parker Evan, so we just changed the middle name so she’ll be Parker Nicole. I’m a Pediatric ICU nurse so we’re happy with either as long as they’re healthy. Congrats on your little boy!
My wife and I were told we had a girl. We even saw where in the image the girl bits were supposed to be. So of course it was a surprise when the doctor said, “It’s a boy!” My first thought was “Very funny doc” A quick look over the surgical screen and yep, that is a boy.
Fortunately we had all the clothes from his brother and hadn’t redone any rooms. Unfortunately, we had several gifts which my wife in particular is loathe to get rid of.
Still we are very happy to have the little boy!
I have four children and have never asked to know the sex of my children. I know people who have told one sex but they had the opposite sex baby. So I understand wanting to know but I just planned for a happy heathy baby each time.
Do people really get creeped out by these types of beautiful pictures? I can’t imagine why!! Congratulations, having three boys is such a blessing.
Congratulations Heather! Boys are fantastic. I have two and then had a girl and the clothing thing is honestly a little bit of a pain….not that I’d trade her, but it would be nice if I were someone that felt comfortable dressing her in only boy clothes.
I have heard about the incorrect gender predictions. I think usually if they see something, they see something so more often girls turn out to be boys than the other way around….but I have zero fact to base that on.
Not a single person I know personally had a wrong ultrasound. When I was pregnant with my son, the penis was super obvious. I think it’s easier to say for sure that it’s a boy than a girl. You may think it’s a girl, but his little thing could just be hiding! If I were told “girl” I’d be skeptical, but I think in general it’s safe to rely on what the technician tells you.
I think Baby Boy Flett #3 is adorable.
Congratulations!
but to add to your story, I’ve had 2 friends who were told they were having boys and they ended up with little girls
Must have had some nice umbilical cords!
Congratulations! Just imagine how awesome trips will be when you’ll have four males ready to carry your bags at the airport!
I understand that outnumbered feeling. When our third so was born my friend brought me a tiara to the hospital. It reminded me that I was queen of the house! When my fourth boy was born she brought me a coffee mug that said “It’s Good to be Queen.” When my twin girls were born all bets were off, I’m still outnumbered, but those girls are the queens for sure!
Do I believe in ultrasounds? Why, certainly I am sure they exist! Sorry, I couldn’t help myself. Also, do people really get weirded out by ultrasound pictures? What do they think is in there?
I can’t really give any constructive comments. If worse comes to worse, you’ll have a good story. As long as its healthy right?
my sis-in-law pointed me to your website, because we just found out a few weeks ago that we are also having boy number three! i have to say, i would be shocked beyond belief if this baby comes out a girl, though, because girl, i saw the proof in the picture – several times – during the ultrasound! it’s hard to be wrong when they say you’re having a boy (though, i’m sure it does happen). i think it happens more often when they tell you that you’re having a girl. either way, yay for babies!
and congrats!

Congrats! They are pretty accurate. I think all those stories are just to give you some hope.
Congratulations! What exciting news. As you know, I figured I was having 3 boys and I was really excited about the idea of 3 brothers…my other 2 adore each other, so this one would surely follow along too. At 13 weeks, the ultrasound tech was SURE it was a boy. Then at 21 weeks, she was SURE it was a girl. We didn’t remind her that she’d gone on and on about it being a boy the time before…we just told her we wanted a 2nd unbiased opinion. The other doc confirmed it was a girl. We were still wary. Then when I was hospitalized at 30 weeks, the ultrasound tech said it’s definitely a girl… It’s so hard to know. Either way, it will be a whole new adventure because each kid is so different and wonderful in his/her own way. Congrats!
Congratulations!!! I am one of those people you hear about. My first child was slated to be a girl. The tech said she was 99% sure and even pointed out the girl parts to me. I had a pink baby shower, pink chenille chair, pink sheets, pink clothes, ruffled curtains made by my mother…
Cut to my due date and the ultrasound technician (a different one) told me it was a boy. I had to return everything I could and still to this day have 3 Tupperware containers filled with girl stuff. I had a beautiful baby boy (and went on to have another boy after that).
Amy is making me get excited for a second ultrasound. The suspense! Any plans for one, Heather?
I had only one ultrasound for the pregnancy for which I found out the gender in advance, and it was accurate, but I wasn’t ready to bet the farm on it. We had a back up name picked out for the other gender.
Welcome to the three of a kind club. We have 3 girls and love it. Ultrasounds with second two were 100% accurate (we chose to be surprised with the first) but I was still skeptical until I was holding them in my arms
Hey wait — didn’t you have an amnio? There’s not getting it wrong with those!
My parents were told their fourth child was going to be a boy, but my dad kept saying they were wrong. He really refused to buy new stuff (they had a baby girl at home who was just outgrowing her baby things) even though every time they went in, they said it was a boy. My mom was thrilled and she picked out the name Alexandro (pronounced like Alejandro).
When she delivered, the nurses (and my dad) proudly presented her with: Alexandra
I just wanted to send a huge CONGRATS to you Heather! Woo eee! I can’t wait to see you soon around town.
congratulations! we don’t make anything but boys in our family, so ultrasound or not, we all pretty much could bet the farm on the boy factor both times around. you are going to be a rad mother of three little dudes…look forward to hearing about your adventures.

I love your ultrasound picture
I am pregnant with our first and we just had our first (and hopefully only) ultrasound at 21 weeks on April 13th. TOTALLY MAGICAL. It is…wait for it… a boy.
We tried for a boy (Shettles Method) so who’s to say if that worked or not, but we ‘got what we wanted’, so to speak.
I just keep thinking, ‘someone to help mow the lawn and take out the trash and shovel dirt around and…and….’ I have to remind myself that girls are fully capable of all that stuff too! But congratulations on your team of young men – boys are awesome, and they can lift heavy things
[...] their shoes and wash their hands. NOTHING ELSE MAY BE DONE BEFORE THAT. EVER. (So if you think that having three boys means she’s going to have a house full of footprints and general boy dirt, you’d be [...]
I had a scan at 21 weeks pic of boy parts, have 2 boys that i adore,, had to talk husband into trying for this baby as eldest is 16 yrs, next is 7 yrs and another gap but the urge for this baby was huge. I woulda loved a girl and feel so bad for saying that. i will love this one no matter what but stil hoping ultrasound wrong!
3rd child is a blessing no matter if its a he or she just feel its a girl, ultrasound says its a boy!
hi, im like you. i have a boy and expecting our secong baby. the scan at 12 weeks the sonographer sais nothing there to indicate a boy. we really would like a girl. at 21 weeks scan the radigrapher told me that it looks like it might be a boy. i was sad and did cry abit though i know that i shouldnt i should just be happy the baby is healthy, and i am.
during the pregnancy i went on gender predictor quizzes and even got a gender predictor urine test and it all indicated a girl. i have heard that they get it wrong sometimes so lets see when time goes. we might even get a surprise.
anyways good luck and if it is a boy all the best for you.xx
