Confession... I have used qtips to clean much more than an ear! I may not chart my babies every move on a spreadsheet (Heather) but my OCD comes out in other ways like qtip cleaning!

My kids just spilled pink lemonade all over the back seat. A cup of it had been in the cup holder of one of their car seats overnight and when they got in the next morning my little one knocked it over and it spilled all over the bench seat between their car seats. I flipped out as they had a bunch of books laying there that got covered with it. I cleaned it up as best I could (with a stuffed animal) as we were late to get oldest to school. That afternoon they had to clean out all their toys, trash and books. Then took it through our local car wash that actually does a great job cleaning inside of the cars too. They have been banned from bringing toys, food, drinks inside of the car for a while until I feel they can keep it clean.
Previously I had told them that if they brought toys with them they had to take them out when we got out of the car but that never worked. Maybe by being banned from having anything back there to play with and mess it up then when I allow them to bring stuff in they will take care of it.
A Mom can always hope!

When I occasionally have to take my daughter's car seat out of the car, I am disgusted at the color change "shadow" around where her car seat was. My first mistake was not taking her shoes off once her feet could touch the seat (rear and forward facing).

One thing that helps me minimize the clutter is once a week I will take a reusable grocery bag and get all the kid-related paraphernalia out of the back seat. Sad thing is, I usually fill it up... and sometimes need two bags. HOW can one tiny little person need so much clutter in one week?

Gunk in the car seat is a sad fact of parenthood. What I'm shocked by is the car itself becoming a crazy magnet for clutter. Look at your own self (library books! animals! food!) and don't judge me for keeping my son's kindergarten application paperwork in a chip clip in the front seat.
