My daughter’s first summer wasn’t that awesome, to be honest. She was born on the 4th of July, so I was fat and sweaty all summer. I hardly slept. Postpartum, I had enormous breasts that were probably visible from across the bay in San Francisco. I was terrified of being left alone with both of my own children for more than two hours. She screamed in the car seat and made every road trip miserable. So instead of that summer, I sort of think of this one as her first summer. This summer she was fun.

To me, summer means blue skies, bathing suits, and laughter. This picture of Scarlett captures all those things. I’m sure the photographers among you will see it differently, but I think I will look back on this picture as emblematic of Scarlett’s babyhood, and her first summer.
The folks at Sony sent me this Cybershot with smile detection, 7.2 megapixels and tons of other features. My second favorite part of the camera is the hot pink carrying case I got for it. My first favorite part is that it took this picture.
So if you have a favorite pic from this summer, paste the link in the comments. We all want to see!

By the way, I have a sony cybershot too. LOVE IT!
What a wonderful picture. I am going to take a look at that camera. Mine is so old . . . how old is it? Well, if I would have tried to take that beautiful picture, your daughter would have already landed.
My kid hates the carseat too. Screams like you strapped him to a cattle prod. Then everyone and their mother tells me how much their kid loved the car. I’m curious- did Scarlett get better? Any tips?
Love the picture of her first summer. That smile is contagious.
It’s my daughter’s first summer, too. She’s only 6 months old, so we haven’t spent a lot of time at the pool…but she’s crazy about the sand. I love this photo.

Oh my gosh, that is a perfect picture! She’s so cute!
Thank you for sharing your post partum summer. I gave birth on 07.07 and my summer has been spent mostly indoors breastfeeding my baby girl. when I’m indoors I’m in pjs and when we do go out for our vitamin d walk or doctor appts I’m in way too big maternity clothes sweating up a storm. Trips outside can be hit or miss too. Either i’m maneuvering through nyc traffic with a child who does not like to be 5 point harnessed to a hot car seat or I’m nervously trying to calculate how long i have before she wakes up hungry.
I’m not complaining though. If I gave birth in the winter, I’m sure feeling cooped up indoors and trying to bundle a newborn in winter gear isn’t much fun either.
great photo! I love the sheer joy!
I love the laughter in her face.
Great photos! This is my back from the beach post. Seth is laying on his stomach on the beach clutching a shell. I love this photo. Then there is the one of him on his knees with his cousins, Carson and Catilyn. I am really considering this one for our Christmas card. Summer is a wonderful time for little ones!
