Now that you have your very own baby, your Halloween costume options have really expanded. If your baby is pretty new, she can be carted around with you, with no regard to bedtime. Enjoy it while it lasts.
A few ways use your baby as a fun prop or sidekick to your own costume. Some of these are very easy on the degree of difficulty scale and some require some more effort, so you can decide.
I would love to hear from someone who incorporates some sort of gear – a backpack or stroller – into their costume.
- Mom is princess, baby is frog (Optional: daddy is prince).
- Parents are the Wonder Twins. Baby is blue space monkey, Gleek. Heather has wanted to do this for years but her husband thinks its creepy to be siblings.
- Adults are characters from the Wizard of Oz. Baby is Toto.
- Baby worn in front carrier is Mini Me as suggested by a RookieMoms.com reader, Sean
- Celebrity baby. If you have even the vaguest resemblance to Jennifer Garner, Beyonce, or Pink, put on your rock star clothes, wear baby in a sling, and carry a Starbucks cup. Alternative to the sling for lesbian moms: one mom is the celebrity, and the other partner dresses as the nanny and carries the baby.
- Martha Stewart’s “no-sew” spider and web
- Mom as a butcher; baby as a piglet
- Baby as an owl and mom is a tree with a green or brown sling.
We have some other Halloween costume ideas and tips for babies and toddlers:

I bought baby a lobster costume and I’m going to dress up as a “house wife” a la June Cleaver to carry him around. A chef would have been better, but I’m just using clothes I already have.
When our son was 4 weeks old, we went to a Halloween party. My husband dressed up as Treebeard (from Lord of the Rings) and Fuller, our son, was in the camouflaged baby Bjorn dressed as a Hobbit. The party was at a bowling alley and my husband even bowled while wearing Fuller. It was sweet.
This year my husband will be the Man in the Yellow Hat and Fuller will be Curious George.
My friend’s hubby was the Statue of Liberty and their baby daughter was King Kong. I wish I had a picture because it was prurdy darn cute….
Last year we had a lion costume for my son Nick who was 6 months old – my husband and I deparately wanted to come up with coordinating costumes but never came up with anything. So we ended up, at the last minute, going to our party as new parents – I went in the sweats and shirt I’d been wearing all day, messed up my hair, and put a brag book on a ribbon around my neck. My husband put on mismatched shoes and took an old white shirt and stained it with carrots, prunes and peas. I don’t think anyone realized that we were even dressed up!
How about a spider lady and fly? If you’ve got your figure back, you can dress up sexy. Baby can be in sleep sack, attach a couple of wings to his back and maybe a give him antennae.
Or for parents & baby–Adam & Eve and dress baby as the apple.
On a variation of the sidekick theme, we’ll be dressing my baby son up as a green parrot (using the green base outfit from One Step Ahead that Heather & Whitney show in their Costume Guide) and my Golden Retriever as a pirate (red and white striped doggy tee with edges cut to make fringe and a little black Halloween makeup for an eye patch)
My 6 week old baby and I are going as kangaroos. I spent $6 in a yard and a half of grey fleece….I made a tail for each of us (stuffed with fiberfill) and ears. I pinned both of these on a grey hoodie/grey pj pants I already owned, and spent $6 for a grey sweat suit for little bit. It is adorable!!! PS) I have a grey baby carrier to use as my ‘pouch’
Last weekend I saw a lady dressed in a bee keeper suit and her two tiny kids were dressed like bees! Super cute!
I’m going to dress my daughter as a cat and carry her in my Moby Wrap. The rest of me will be in a bathrobe and covered in stuffed cats to go as the crazy cat lady in the Simpsons.
I dressed up as a pirate and 6 month old DD was a parrot. I sewed eyes and a beak onto a lime green hoodie. She wore that and yellow pants. I cut wings out of felt and glued a rainbow feather boa on it as a tail. I pinned that onto my beco baby carrier (it covered the whole thing). I wore her like that to a Halloween party and got great compliments!
Our son was about 10 months old for his first Halloween and not quite walking. We bought an astronaut costume and turned his stroller in to a space shuttle. It was fun!
I’m hoping once we have baby #2 (baby #1 is a two-year-old now, and too heavy for this idea), I’ll have the ambition to dress myself and my husband as skyscrapers, and the wee one as a little gorilla.
Last Halloween our daughter was about 3 months old. My husband and I both wore black, and I made two cookies out of black posterboard and hung them around our necks. We dressed our daughter in white and put her in the sling. We were an Oreo cookie!
When my baby was a few months old I wore her in a sling on my back under a black robe and went as the hunchback of Notre Dome. I have also been a princess and my baby was a pea, complete with her stroller decked out like a pea pod. It was my fav.
@ Erin, I actually think that a 2 yo dressed as a gorilla, clinging to your husband dressed as a skyscraper is totally cute. Someone’s going to be carrying her, right? Why not a skyscraper daddy?
We’re stealing an idea we saw on your site and I’m going to be a spider web and our baby is going to be a spider in the black Snugli carrier! My honey is going to be a can of Raid.
I’ll send pictures after Halloween!
we, my mini family and my sister are planing to do a circus. I was worrying about baby, rueben being cold. so decided he needed to be carried, so i’m going to spend the next few days finding a way to make us look like Siamese twins, he’s still going to be the lion tamer, but on my belly.
I’m dressing up as a bunny (maybe a sexy playboy bunny if I can pull it off by October!) and my little one will be a fuzzy carrot!
Also I’ve thought about being “Cruella DeVille” and dressing the babe as a dalmation.
How about goldilocks and the three bears – husband, baby, and baby’s bear?
or little red riding hood and the big bad wolf?
Albert went as a lamb, and I was Bo Peep this past year. Next year, we were discussing going as the three pigs.
I’m going as a witch and my 8 month old will be my snow owl. We are going to Harry Potter World in Florida :3
Love these ideas. For Star Wars fans: Mom is Princess Leia, Dad is Hans Solo (or Luke Skywalker), and baby is Yoda.
A friend dressed as Darth Vader with his baby as little Luke Skywalker.
When my kids were 2 and 3mths, we dressed ourselves as farmers and them as pumpkins.
