Taking the baby in the pool is both scary and funny.
A kid’s gotta stick his toe into the water at some point, right?
Buy a package of disposable swim diapers or a reusable one, and plan your outing. This is our 27th rookie mom challenge.
If you are alone, think carefully through the logistics of how you are going to change your clothes, change baby, get in the pool, get out of the pool, get on dry stuff and get back in the car. You are not as smart as you used to be and you will probably mess up part of this process and end up walking out to your car in just a bra and towel holding your baby in one arm and a diaper between your teeth. Let me just help you out: Take your stroller with you into the dressing room. That way you have someplace to put the baby, towels, wet bathing suits and diaper bag while you get dry yourself.
This is also a fun activity with a very pregnant friend.
Do you plan to take your baby into the pool this summer? Have you done it already?

We took Holden this weekend to both the Family Swim and Tiny Waves at the Berkeley YMCA. He enjoyed watching the other kids splashing around so much he barely noticed the swimming.
In fact, he sat still, wearing his swim diaper and a towel, in the stroller watching all the moms and kids in the locker room while I got dressed.
hi can you tell me where is the saline pool in el cerrito? does that mean no chlorine?
Here it is: http://www.el-cerrito.org/recreation/swim_center.html –
it’s gorgeous blue salty water – no chlorine. Enjoy!
Let’s not forget the whole…ok child #1 wants to get in the pool but can’t yet swim, child doesn’t want to get in the pool..just wants to play on the sideline. I want to get in with child #1 but I don’t want to take off my swim skirt in front of all these people…what do i do? Always awkward…and ends in once again me getting into the pool with no dignity.
an idea i stole from another mom…take the umbrella stroller into the locker room/changing room. this way i can put my daughter down (and she can’t walk away) while i change. i also take her into the shower stall with me when we are done….

My 3rd DD HATED baths until we took her swimming with her sisters. I had my hubby to help though since there are 3 of them. I consider it a pivotal moment though because I now can bathe all 3 of them at once
How old should a baby be before they go into a salt water pool?
This is a MUST in Texas! We’ve been going swimming every other day, although it is a total circus. I put my 17 mo. old in a sling side hold while I carry a diaper bag, a swim bag, and a pool toy (beach ball, floatie, noodle, etc.). I need to work on minimizing our stash, and figure out which one of all the toys he prefers so I don’t look like a crazy person!
They also have mesh slings available out there, for those moms chasing multiple kids. Makes you feel more confident you would drop that slippery baby when you’re keeping the older ones in line.
Swim diaper. Didn’t know those existed the first time I took Knight “swimming.” Second time, my cousin had an extra one, and things were much less bloated.
It also took me quite a few pee-outs before she suggested I point the baby’s penis down in the diaper.
There is so much I didn’t know I didn’t know!!
My daughter went for her first swim at 11 weeks old! She’s now 4 months old & has been swimming 4 times. She LOVES it. Photo on my blog of her playing in her kiddie pool.
The hardest part for her? Same thing as it is for me – getting peeled out of a wet, clingy swimsuit!
I just took my 3mo old daughter to a friends pool with hubby. Just up to her belly. She screamed for about 5min but then was okay. I think it was the water temp. But she loves bath time so I knew she would eventually warm up to the pool. Can’t wait to take her to the beach next month!!!
