Giveaway: Sony Dash Personal Internet Viewer

Facebook, how do I access thee? Let me count the ways:

  1. On the desktop computer in my home office.
  2. Who am I kidding? I rarely sit in my office. I am writing this from the comfort of my couch, with my laptop. I have not actually looked at Facebook yet today, but I see that Twitter access is already open in another browser tab.
  3. My phone.
  4. Our iPad, usually found on a nightstand or sometimes in the kitchen.
  5. And now, the Sony Dash. The Dash is basically an app machine that cycles through content you have preselected, such as NY Times photos of the day, E! headlines, Martha Stewart recipes, and of course your Facebook account.  Unlike the other Internet devices I mentioned above, you don’t have to click or do anything for the content to come to you.

If you are one of those people who “forgets” to check in on your social network-y friends (I’ll just pretend I can relate to this), or forgets to read the New York Times, or forgets to keep abreast of pop music, tune in. You’re going to like this.

Our Sony Dash is currently in the living room, telling me that it’s 65 degrees in Berkeley, CA. Since it has an alarm clock function, I could also see using it as a bedroom accessory.

You can run a bunch of apps on this handy little guy, or just keep it simple and use it as a picture viewer when you link it up with your Flickr account. It connects wirelessly with your household network, so it just plugs into the wall for power.

Other cool tricks? Touch any of the stories to see more – so if you’ve got the YouTube widget running, simply touch the video to see it play. Like the recipe Martha is promoting today? Touch the screen to see the whole thing.  Got Netflix? Watch your Mad Men while you do the dishes. Betty Draper’s housekeeper only wishes she had it so good.

Want one? Sony gave us one to send to a reader. Here’s the deal:

Click over to the Dash info page and identify one application you’d like to access in a dash. Are you a Twitter girl or a Pandora junkie? Need your sports news ASAP or your E-bay auction status?  Tell us in the comments below. Comments will close at midnight on Thursday, September 23 (US-residents only. Sorry!). We’ll pick one winner at random on Friday, September 24, 2010.
