Even if you’re not a Hallmark kinda girl, you probably know that Sunday is Mother’s Day. You may be expecting a card, brunch, or a nap. I’d appreciate all of those. But imagine coming home to a clean house again and again for one month … and you didn’t have to do the dirty work.
When Green Works®, a line of naturally derived cleaning products from the makers of Clorox, offered us the chance to give a reader this prize, I was like, HECK YEAH! I bet all the rookie moms would be happy to click your link or watch your video or do whatever it takes, because who doesn’t want housecleaning? I even have a housecleaner twice per month already and I’d take bonus housecleaning days on top of that because, guess what, the floors don’t clean themselves during the 28 days my cleaning lady doesn’t come each month. (Plus she flakes a lot.)
What you could win: a break from the back-breaking scrubbing, vacuuming and dusting – up to $400 to spend on the housecleaning service of your choice. (You’ll also receive a bundle of brand new products, including new Green Works® Oxi Stain Remover and Chlorine-Free Bleach.)
Simply watch the 3-minute video of HGTV’s hunky handyman Carter Oosterhouse and tell us which of his Green It Yourself Tips was your favorite. Make your comment before midnight on Saturday, May 7 to be entered to win.
On Sunday, which is Mother’s Day 2011, we’ll notify one lucky lady that she has won. Good luck!

I love the idea of adding house plants. I really need to work on my green thumb!
Definitely going to look into the cork floors when we get moving on replacing our carpeting, but before then, I’m going to look for the Green Works wipes! I love the ease of using wipes, but always worry about the chemicals and the kids. I had no idea there was a green alternative. Thanks!
I love the dry erase board idea, with the formaldehyde free paint! I have a wall screaming for this!
I like the plant idea. I have none! need to work on that!
Love the white board idea with the green wipes! Will be using that one on the future!
Before having kids I used to have several plants that were well cared for. They did not survive when my time became monopolized with my children. The ironic thing is that our house (and our kids) need plants more than ever, so I am going to green up with plants!
I love the dry erase board idea! Gonna try it in my boy’s room!
I liked the tip of using the recycled materials on the countertops. I have 2 6 month olds and a 2 year old- and EVERYTHING gets thrown on the counter. Gross! thanks!

Love the idea of painting or drawing on the wall and the wipes ease it!!!!
I love the corkboard floor!
Never thought about plants in that way. That’s a good idea.
The plants!
Great idea!
I love the whiteboard paint!
I didn’t know they had dry erase paint! That is awesome. I have so many ideas for that!
I love the cork floor! The whiteboard wall comes in a close second, but I hate the smell of most dry erase markers.
Another fan of the dry-erase wall idea. I’m totally going to look for paint like that for my son’s room.
i love the idea of adding houseplants to keep the air clean! that they look awesome is a great bonus!
I love the plants in the playroom!
love the tip on using plants to clean air at home!
Wow! Great project ideas! Love the cork floor and whiteboard wall.
We just moved across the country and had to give up all our plants, so the video reminded me there are multiple reasons why I should hurry up and get some. I’ve always wanted cork flooring and eco friendly kids furniture (and adult) but have been deterred by the price.
I love the dry -erase walls – so much more colorful than blackboard paint. Great looking room!
We’ve been looking for a coffee table for our new family room. I totally love using an eco-friendly kid’s table instead if a traditional coffee table. On top of being a green table, it multi-tasks so it’s one less piece of furniture to buy, and then some day dispose of.
With my husband’s allergies, I wonder if the houseplant idea might benefit him! I’ve never been a very green thumb person, and tend to forget to water them, but maybe that’s the motivation I need!
I love the dry erase board idea! how cool! my kids would love it!
I love the idea of “clearing the air” with green plants!
I didn’t know there was whiteboard paint, very cool! Also, didn’t ever even think about eco-friendly furniture, something else to consider as we make green changes in our household.
The dry erase board idea, with the formaldehyde free paint is great. We have a couple of boards that never stay put.
Love the dry erase board idea! My kids would love that!
As a former “child wall artist”, I love the suggestion of painting a wall with chalkboard paint. Or instead of painting a wall, it might be fun to paint a dresser with chalkboard paint and add some really cute drawer pulls!
I need to get more houseplants! Fantastic idea!
As a teacher, I love that there is whiteboard paint now! What a great idea to have at home, wondeful!
I love that whiteboard paint. Hmm, time to redecorate the kid’s room?
The plants for sure. Who couldn’t use some more pretty green things around the house?
I like the houseplants idea. Inspires me to do a little better with caring for the few I have, and possibly add a few more.
Oh, how I would LOVE to have cork floors and get rid of the discusting carpet!
I love the idea of adding plants to clean the air… I guess that means you have to keep them alive? I’ll have to work on that part!
Would love cork floors, but using more plants is far more financially feasible.
Cork flooring sounds great!
I’ve never considered adding houseplants as a way to clean the air. Thought that was a great tip and very easy improvement to make our house greener!
I like the tip on planting live plants.
I love the plant idea.
Adding more plants!
would love to have those cool eco friendly bookcases!
I love the white board wall. I would doodle all day.
Love the dry erase low VOC idea!
LOVE the whiteboard!! and the plants! I don’t have the greenest of thumbs but I love indoor plants.
Definitely love the cork floors. Going to consider this when we remodel our office.
I really like the white board paint, I’m seriously going to buy some today.
I love the plants tip!! I think it’s so important and I often forget how important- thanks for the great reminder!
