Surely you’ve seen those coffee makers that use little pods for individual servings of coffee. Now, there’s a drink machine just for your baby.
From the website MinuteBuzz.com:
Swiss mums have a new labour-saving device to add to their armoury with the advent of Baby Nes — the equivalent of the cult Nespresso coffee machine, but for baby formula.
The capsules offer customised nutrition for every stage of a baby’s development, and the milk is dispensed right into the bottle at the correct temperature for instant consumption.
See the marketing website for La Systeme Baby Nes (all in French) here.
Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on this! Fun? Ridiculous? Stylish accessory for your kitchen?

Ridiculous. But, I’m in favor of the all in one, built in and portable system that women walk around with daily, namely, breasts!
I totally agree with Michelle.
OMG I WOULD HAVE KILLED FOR THIS!
Have you ever tried to make two bottles in the middle of the night when two babies are crying… multiple times a night because you have to wake two preemie babies for feedings on a schedule? Then you shake the formula up and it adds gas so the babies are fussy?
They could make a bazillion dollars in the multiples world (where breastfeeding rates are substantially lower, mostly due to prematurity).
GENIUS!
Ditto michelle. All we need is another reason for breastfeeding rates to go down. And let’s not forget the even larger impact that formula use will now have on our environment.
(In the interest of full disclosure, due to medical reasons my daughter received about 1/3 breastmilk and 2/3 formula).
I so love technology. This would be in my repertoire next time (if the price is right) ♥
I kinda love this. I breast feed but my son gets like one formula bottle a day. Bottle warmer doesn’t do the evenly warming of the bottle and the gas factor (as stated by Laura C) is really annoying.
I think its just a luxury- come on, we know we don’t NEED this. But I kind of like that with new mommy brain I won’t be going “Omg did I put two scoops in? Or just one? This was 4 ozs right?” because I am that paranoid and sleep deprived. Hmm… Maybe if my BFing still sucks with baby number 2…
From an innovation perspective, I have to give Nestle a lot of credit. This is pretty cool looking. I love my Nespresso, and if I had to formula feed, this would definitely be intruiging (if expensive and an environmental disaster due to all the energy and waste).
I am really sad that the first answer on “How useful do you think this formula-related device is” is “Not at all because breastfeeding.”
Not everyone breastfeeds. Not everyone needs to answer to you (the general you) as to why they don’t. Can’t we support each other and recognize that technology can make our lives better without getting down into this kind of competition?
Off the top of my head:
- multiple births
- mom goes back to work because she’s the primary money maker
- bio mom isn’t involved in raising the baby
- baby has two dads
- baby has one dad and no mom
- mom is unable to breastfeed for medical reasons
I can imagine that this kind of device would be SO useful for someone in any of the above scenarios, and telling them “Just breastfeed” isn’t helpful at all.
(High five to Emily WK!)
While I do agree that yes, breast is best, there are some if us out there that want to breastfeed so badly but have found out we can’t. It’s heartbreaking, only made worse by people reminding us that we can’t provide what is best and natural for our babies. So if someone has invented something that makes formula feeding (which is incredibly inconvenient as LauraC pointed out) more fun and convenient, then I’m all for it.
AWESOME!
I bf my first child and am 11 weeks away from my second, which I plan to bf too, but this is just the perfect answer to those moments when you might have to formula feed (I had to stop bf my first at 5 months after my milk suddenly dried up, and I had to bottle feed)
This would be wonderful for the parents who need to formula feed for whatever reason. We all know breast is best BUT there are MANY reasons for women who do not or cannot and it doesn’t make them any less of a wonderful mother
I’m not sure I would have used this, but I think it’s cool. I was unable to breastfeed for more then 2 months because my daughter was premature and had a lot of feeding issues. I agree with Emily that people should be careful of making comments or judgements against people who don’t breastfeed, it is not always possible. For those of us who were unable to breastfeed it is nice to have some options to make our lives easier, cause trust me, dealing with formula in the middle of the night is tricky.
I could not breast feed, even though I wanted to. Some moms just don’t have a choice! Formula feeding is a huge pain, especially with a newborn and questionable water, so I like this machine! Try getting a bottle ready just perfect in the middle of the night for a screaming baby… Price would definitely be an issue though.
Thank you Emily WK for your comment. Why can’t we just support each other as moms rather than splitting into the breast and formula factions? I did not feel supported even by the medical community, much less other moms.
I’ve never formula fed but saw this and immediately thought “so cool!” Seems like a genius idea for formula feeders to me.
It’s not as if someone’s decision to breastfeed or formual feed hinges on whether this machine exists or not, so I’m not sure why we have to pretend that it might?
As someone who must formula feed for medical reasons, I too was saddened by the comments that seemed to focus on putting down formula feeders (as if we need more arenas to feel put down).
That said, I think this product is a waste of resources. I scoop formula into a couple of dispensers at the beginning of the day and then tote pre-boiled water around in a thermos so I have confidence in the temp and source of my water. I think an electric tea pot and multiple formula dispensers are a better investment. My 2 cents!
I have to agree with Emily. I desperately wanted to breastfeed but had a really difficult time with it. Determination got me through 6 months before my supply dried up. I agree 100% it is the best thing for baby when possible but we shouldn’t be made to feel like less of a woman or mom if we don’t breastfeed. We should be supporting each other. Being a mommy can be stressful enough without turning on each other for making different choices.
Oh and I think this thing is totally cool but probably ridiculously expensive!
To Marketing Mommy’s thoughts, I would add how flipping awesome it would be if le-swiss-formula-machine ran on the same hardware as a Nespresso machine (with different pods). Then again, the risk of caffeinating my baby seems like a silly one to take.
To avoid the extra device on my counter and pods in my cabinet, I will use my precious instant-hot-water-heater. Love that thing.
This is absurd. “Baby’s First Keurig” What a marketing ploy. The only people who would benefit from this – those lacking the correct information on proper formula mixing – could never afford it. Sounds like a great way for BRU to convince new parents-to-be that they need to spend even more in order to provide for their child.
I second the first comment about breastfeeding. BUT I do understand that no everyone can/wants to/is able to breastfeed, but really…this is just another way to glamourize formula feeding.
I appreciate all the support! I have tried everything and I’m so disheartened I cannot breastfeed. I pump and hand express and get 5-10ml. I breastfeed for my baby’s comfort because she still drinks 3oz of formula. This stresses me out too much and my husband fought with me because of my unneccessary stress over the baby’s refusal of the lact-aid. I’m super jealous of you moms who just carry your breasts and not bottles.
I don’t see how this is glamorizing formula feeding any more than accessories for breastfeeding (cool prints for fabric covers! great new breast pump technology!) is glamorizing breastfeeding.
When someone has to disclaim that “I guess people who CAN’T can use formula,” we are excluding entire families. Entire families who are legitimate and real and don’t need us judging them.
If breastfeeding doesn’t work for my next kid, I will totally have one. I love my keurig for my coffee
Formula feeding mamas – just ignore the rude, judgemental-ness. Do not allow some random person you have never met make you feel like you’re less of a mother because they don’t approve of your choice/necessity/whatever. They do not deserve that much control over you.
Yes, there are medical reasons that people have to use formula. In my original post I disclosed that I was one of those people. But the fact is that the vast majority of people who formula feed do so by choice. Why is it always ok to defend formula use, but it’s not ok to try and preserve the art of breast feeding? Nestle is notorious for its pursuit of profit in this category. One cannot be surprised they came up with, as another poster put it, “baby’s first keurig”.
This item was not designed with mom or baby’s best interest in mind, it was designed to maximize profit. You think formula is expensive now? How about when you’re using 8 of those packets a day? Now think about all of those little packets (and the box it came in) getting thrown into a landfill. Think of all the resources and energy used to make all those tiny plastic cups, on top of all the waste created in the production of formula. These items are all produce to convince us to spend spend spend in all the wrong places.
There may be a smiling woman in the add, but this product puts a disgusted look on my face.
“Why is it always ok to defend formula use, but it’s not ok to try and preserve the art of breast feeding?”
If you don’t think that you can try to preserve breastfeeding and encourage it without alienating the families who use formula, you have a problem that I don’t have an answer for. And that isn’t a problem that I have – nowhere have I said that it isn’t okay to preserve breastfeeding. I suggested it was wrong to vilify families who use formula.
Hate the game, not the player. Hate on Nestle for marketing inappropriately (I sure do). But don’t hate on the families. Don’t hate on the individuals who would find this useful.
“Think of the resources and energy used to make those tiny plastic cups” — okay, so do you live in a glass house? What resources and energy do you take up that someone else might find frivolous? I can’t imagine that the answer is none — everyone has their line, and this is yours, but that doesn’t mean that a woman who formula feeds or who would find this useful deserves your ire or disgust.
why do people take every single little opportunity they can find to bash people who use formula?
Find a conversation where you can actually contribute in a positive way.
As a mother of twins, might I remind you that breastfeeding certainly CAN be done ……. I nursed my boys up until they were 27 months old, and certainly had no use for something like this.
LOL – this cracks me up! My son was born 10wks early with tons of health/development issues. Add onto that, my boobs growing 5 sizes (and never shrinking), so large that no one’s mouth (let alone my teensy son’s), or largest flange could put pressure on the sinuses. He ate every 60-90mins for 6mos, each time with me getting him to latch (to stimulate the milk), then feeding him what I’d pumped, then feeding him formula to supplement (since it took me 72hrs to pump 2oz, even on full dose of Reglan and 25 capsules of Fenugreek/day), then double-pumping while I burped him (and cleaned up his projectile, which happened 8-10x/day). He also didn’t sleep for more than 40mins until he was 20mos old, so I was allllllllways second guessing if what I’d mixed was correct, sometimes dumping because there was a slim chance it wasn’t accurate. I would have loved this machine for sure!
And now that my dreams of nursing my son for 2yrs, then nursing an adopted child is long gone – I may ask for this when our adopted child does come along
The comment prompt was “Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on this! Fun? Ridiculous? Stylish accessory for your kitchen?”
My comment was on this specific product. I did not say anything against those families and parents who need or choose to use formula, I was simply giving my reaction to this specific product. Which, again, seems ridiculous to me.
If it makes someone’s life easier and is worth the $, by all means, go for it! Breast or formula, it doesn’t matter so long as the child is fed.
Definitely a cool tool !
As someone sitting here at 4am tethered to a pump because my son can’t get the hang of breastfeeding (despite seeing near on a dozen lactation consultants and trying every trick in the book for the past 3 months), I think this gadget is awesome!
The comments that say, why not just breastfeed, must come from lucky people who never had to go through the frustration of not being able to. I can tell you, it would be a LOT easier to just breastfeed than do formula or pumping.
So far I am lucky to be able to provide with a pump, but that is not true for many women whose babies can’t BF — and I have no idea whether I’ll be able to sustain supply this way myself. It’s hard enough to deal with the daily logistics of bottle feeding without such negative comments.
Thanks for the post Rookie Moms!
Sarah, that’s exactly right. Not being able to breastfeed is heartbreaking and makes me feel like a complete failure after seeinga tons of specialists and trying every tactic to increase my supply. If that isn’t hard enough, I have to deal with the guilt and humiliation everytime someone on a breastfeeding soapbox shoves their opinion at me, assuming bottle feeding was some vein decision I made for my baby. If there is any lesson I will take with me when I’m (hopefully) successfully breastfeeding my next child, it is not to judge or make assumptions. Every situation is different and I refuse to make other women feel the way I’ve been made to feel.
using the reusable filter on my Keurig, I would assume that they’d make a reusable pod that you could just fill on your own if needed. That’d definitely improve the green factor. Get a set of 8 pods, fill them for the day and then use as needed.
I tried desperately to breastfeed as other commenters mentioned. I tried desperately to pump, but my baby never let me put her down and I could only pump 10 minutes listening to her scream hysterically to be picked up – never the amount of time the lactation nurses told me I needed to pump in order to get my supply up.
but I generally hate using that as an excuse. Because it sounds like I think I’m better for trying than those who chose not to try.
I would hope that every woman has the opportunity to look down at their baby feeding and feel overwhelming love and kiss their head, their toes and (my personal favorite) the bridge of my baby’s nose. Use a boob or use a bottle, but hold them as often as possible – even if they’re holding their own bottle. Because they’re only that small for a short time.
Ah, Emily. A voice of reason. By boob or by bottle, just get it done and love that baby. I couldn’t agree more.
I breastfed both my babies for 7 months or so and CHOSE to switch to formula at that point because I was just tired of having my gigantic boobs out all over town. No medical reasons. No supply issues. I could have fed the entire neighborhood with my overabundant bounty. I JUST DIDN’T WANT TO. I wish that more women were brave enough to say that.
As for the original question: This machine is absolutely ridiculous and I love it! I’d buy it in a heartbeat
I tried with both my girls very unsuccessfully with the first (the lactation consultant called her a baracuda) and with my second I gave it a shot, but it was just easier and made both me, my oldest and in the process the youngest happier to use formula. This machine…I find ridiculous… seriosly you can buy the bottles premade if you don’t think you can get the portions correct. Every doctor I know will tell you formula does not need to be heated, it can be served at room temp without any issues…making night time heat ups pointless and you can get the containers that allow you to portion out 3 or 4 servings at a time. This to me is like baby wipe warmers…a waste.
YEAH Emily WK and the other Emily! We need to support one another and stop making excuses of why you’re not doing this or that. People wouldn’t make excuses unless they were fearing judgement. Let’s try to have a no judgement zone! That being said, I’d love to have the counter space for another machine like this. Every day we turn around, there’s something else to make our lives “easier”. It’s clever either way.
$300 USD for the machine
$2.25 for each bottle
Super cool concept, needs to come down a LOT in price!
