sadie is still little enough that i keep about 6 different toys out of sight. and every time she fusses a new one magically – poof! – appears out of think air for her to play with until she bores and we begin again. its not a new concept for any mom, but boy is it handy when sitting in holiday traffic!

We have learned to travel at night!!! If your child sleeps all night its perfect! One night of not sleeping for the parents in MUCH better than a screaming child for a 8 hour car ride!!!!!

If you attach something like the gogo traveler handle to your car seat it makes getting around the airport easier.

When traveling to Grandma’s house in the summer we like to pack a picnic lunch and blanket. We stop half way at a rest area to eat and play on the play ground. The lunch is healthier than fast food, and we run off energy while playing that our toddler usually sleeps for the second half of the trip!

We learned this one the hard way (by not doing it the first time) – we are going to have our baby nap in his Pack-n-Play for about a week prior to traveling. Unfortunately, we hadn’t done this before our Thanksgiving trip, and we didn’t sleep for about 4 days!

My 10 month old loves to sing so we keep him entertained by coming up with songs on the fly! Mom and dad make up silly songs and our little one Oohs along!

Make copies of all passports and keep them in a separate place.

We make a travel book of things we might see (like attractions that we will pass, and some random items that we might see… semis, cows, etc) – then when check the card off when we see it.

We like to play the “alphabet” game. It’s fun for adults, toddlers, and kids of all ages and stimulates thought and learning. Starting with the letter “A”, you come up with a name, an adjective describing your personality, and an occupation.

For example,
“My name is William, I’m a winner, and I wash windows.”

It’s really entertaining, fun, and funny.

I try to schedule flights so the layover is during naptime. That way I can stroll my toddler around the airport in hopes that he will sleep.

I have heard only great things about the Evenflow car seat from family and friends and that they prefer the Evenflow car seat over other, more expensive brands on the market – and it gets rave safety reviews which is of course super important. When traveling, always a good idea to surprise the tots with a “new” small toy (or activity book) to keep them occupied.
