Activity #391: Create custom stamps

Hey, did you hear? The price of US postage went up. Again! So while I’m busy double-reindeer stamping our late Mother’s Day cards, you can put your favorite photo on real US postage stamps on PhotoStamps.com. For (slightly) more than double the cost of regular stamps, you can make custom photo stamps with your adorable kid’s picture.

Milo as postage

There are discounts when you buy 2 or more sheets. It’s an adorable concept for sure and I love to make practice stamps (like this one) with the interface, but the cheapskate in me can’t stomach the prices. I’d rather get real stamps and put kid stickers as a sealer (or inside for re-use).

old postageHas anyone done this and loved it? Or can you help me think of an occasion when paying double for stamps could save me on putting something expensive in the envelope…?

Bye bye cheaper stamps.

It’s not legal postage, but you can make printable stamps of your photos (and more) here: http://flagrantdisregard.com/flickr/frame.php

I’ve created postage stamp several times on zazzle.com as gifts. it’s super easy and people loved them.

I think this would make a neat birthday gift for the person who has everything. I also gave a whole bunch of other ideas over here at my home business blog here: http://www.webmomz.com/blog/you-on-a-us-postage-stamp/

I did this for my wedding invitations. I was mailing them out right around the time they increased postage last time. The pretty stamp sets the had for weddings (one for the reply envelope, and another for the heavier invitation) were the wrong denomination, and I didn’t want to mess up the look by tacking on 2 cent stamps everywhere. The new wedding stamp sets weren’t going to be out for a couple of months, so I made custom stamps in the denominations I needed instead. Yeah, it was a little more expensive, but it was a drop in the bucket compared to all my other wedding expenses.

I also used zazzle.com for a wedding present for a couple who had EVERYTHING. It was personal and appreciated.

My parents gave me a giftcard for a sheet of these stamps before my daughter was born. They were really easy to make, and I use them when i send letters or cards to family. I’m not sure I’d spend the money myself, but I agree that they are a great gift.

I got my parents those stamps two years ago, with a picture of their dog on it. A little more, yes, but a) they’re difficult to shop for sometimes and b) they loved it, so all good. :)

I made them at PhotoStamps.com for our first family Christmas card. We were sending it out to a bunch of people who hadn’t seen the baby yet, and so we took a photo of his sweet little face for the stamp. People went nuts over them. Alot of folks saved that card and the envelope.

I’m too cheap. I thought about this for my wedding but I couldn’t justify the extra cost.

I usually just make my own stickers or print out my own photos and add them to the inside or seal the envelope with it.
