Activity #315: Carry an extra set of keys

by Heather

My friend Linda turned me on to this idea and I really don’t know how I didn’t think of this myself… I came oh-so-close to it. This was me:

  • Why does Holden cry when I need my keys for driving?
  • How come the plastic keys just aren’t doing it?
  • Gee, where can I get a set of really good fake keys?
  • I need to throw away some of these keys that I don’t know what they open

And then like magic today, I learned that baby Amalia also loves keys and she is just as happy with her “fake set” of real keys from the hardware store (duh!). Since she is especially fond of the car keys, her folks got her some uncut (thus safer) car-style keys to round out the set. Genius.

Whitney has other good fakie fake ideas not involving a trip to the hardware store.

Activity #7: Share lunch

by Whitney

Today’s activity: make something for lunch you and the babe can both eat – baked or microwaved sweet potato and cottage cheese with fruit. Less trips to the fridge and sink, right?

Activity #364: Start a Secret Santa tradition, geek-style

by Heather

SecretSanta.comIf you’re feeling too lazy, cheap, overwhelmed, or frazzled to face holiday shopping for all your friends or relatives this year, I would like to suggest a little Secret Santa action.

Last year, baby Holden assigned each of my five siblings another person’s name for gift-giving. He used his own email account to tell everyone who they had while I more-or-less stayed out of it. This weekend, Alec and I were musing what an easy web business idea it would be to run a little secret santa site on the side… and lo and behold, I found that SecretSanta.com already exists.

So, this year, I added everyone’s names and the site should (theoretically) manage invitations, assignments, a spending limit, and little wishlists — cool! The service is free — you just have to dodge the landmine of free offers and ads. I hope it works or Holden will be ho-ho-ho’ing it again for us next year.

Activity #204: Step away from the computer, lady

by Whitney

Seriously. Is someone you love napping right now? If you click on one more link, you’re just depriving yourself from an opportunity to lay down.

I do this to myself every day. I’m so so so tired and then the kid’s asleep and I’m clicking away. The few times I’ve been disciplined, it’s been so lovely. You should try it. The second your little monkey conks out, run into your bedroom, rip off your pants and jump into bed. Close your eyes. Stay.
