pax and jules kickin it n the trailer

Those bike trailer thingy-doos are cool, right? My friend Erin has one and it can carry two kids. So fun! Erin has also used the extra space for Target merchandise.

Yes, my friend, you can ride your bike to Target with your baby in the trailer and shop your little head off. Isn’t life grand?

We have ridden our bikes to breakfast with both of our kids in her trailer. My son fell asleep with his big helmet head smushing her son’s face.

Do you have any recommendations on which one to buy? NO, WE ARE NOT PREGNANT! But, this summer I’m hoping to take my nephew out on some bike rides with me and thought about getting one of these.

Let me know.

Thanks!

Julio

Julio, It’s funny that you ask… I have to confess that neither Whitney nor I actually own one of these. Whitney’s friend does and that is little Julian riding around with his buddy, Paxton.

The darn bike trailer things are super expensive, $400+ and very hard to find used… believe me, we’ve been looking!

Based on our primitive research, we’d really like the Burley d’Lite.

Try to borrow or rent one and let us know what you think.

Oh yeah, and make sure these babies have helmets on! Don’t get me started on the importance of bike helmets… a bike helmet saved my life, protected my brain, and got me a husband!

The bike thingys are expensive. We got one used from Craiglist - http://www.craigslist.org
We got it at the end of the season - easier and cheaper.

I gotta be honest, those baby bike trailers scare the bejusus outta me. Cars have a hard enough time seeing BIKES, much less a 2′ tall trailer being towed behind one. I just see them getting run over, that quick. Has anyone seen any safety stats on them?

As someone who commutes to work with a kid in a bike seat, it isn’t that bad. Check your area for bike lanes and bike trails if you are concerned about people seeing you. Also, I’ve heard from a number of people that trailers get a bit more respect. One, you are larger and two, people know what you’ve got back there. In the bike communities I’ve seen, I’ve never heard of anyone getting hit with a trailer behind them.
