I so agree! Why should I torture myself by carting my kids all over creation?

There is so much enrichment that they can take advantage of at home: reading, sewing, cooking, playing games, running around outside and discovering nature, etc. A trip to the playground is as good exercise as they’ll get in a sports class, plus it’s often an opportunity for moms to socialize with each other.

Not sure where I heard this expression, but “If Momma ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy.”

This is so important for moms to hear. I am a very new mom and I plan to put this into practice. If every mom just allows an hour or so of selfish-time then everything else would be more manageable.
Many of us stress ourselves out by trying to be “good”, selfless moms, but at the same time by denying our own needs and desires, we end up building up frustration and grudges. It is good to take control of the time you have with smaller children that are easier to entertain and bring with you. Once they start to develop their own hobbies and daily activities, mom’s personal time rapidly shrinks.

Amen! It took me two years to realize that the happiness of my family would increase exponentially if I would “exercise [my] right to be a little selfish.” After all, why model for our children the art of making choices that make us unhappy?
