Just last night I was lying awake wondering if my "defusing" and "distraction" tactics for my volatile two year old actually came across as coddling and giving in to other moms. Actually, my mom's group has been really valuable because I get to see them having the same issues and the same doubts. Maybe we don't all do the same thing but we are all trying to do our best, and very sympathetic toward each other. As long as everyone makes an effort not to judge, you don't all have to be in lockstep when it comes to child rearing.

I remember what a relief it was when I realized that most moms were concentrating so hard on their own kids that they really didn't have much time to pay much attention to yours.

I'm facing the same thing - especially around veteran mommies - mommies that are my mother's age. I wonder how I come across as a mom - am I too sweet? too tough? too whiny? Do I breastfeed properly? Do I hold my LO correctly?

I haven't joined any mommy groups yet, but when I do I know this will be an issue. Just have to remember they're all probably fearing the same thing I am.

It all really comes down to my baby - he's happy and smiling, so I must be doing something right!
