My laundry room is sort of a mud room, which is a term I only recently learned from getting older and having friends with larger houses. The photo on the left is an example from my dear friend Martha Stewart, whose home to which I have been invited less than once.
A mud room is where you are supposed to come in and take off your shoes, but the location of mine, far from a door we actually use to enter the house, doesn’t work for that. However the floor usually has a light layer of mud on it, due to it’s backyard access, so let’s call it the mud(dy) room. And let’s not insert a picture of it in this post.
My washing machine and her twin sister Dryer live in this muddy room and so do a handful of laundry baskets, garden tools, cleaning supplies, stinky running shoes, beach chairs, and outdoor toys. As you can imagine, whenever Martha comes over, she simply cannot bear to look at this pile of nonsense. Or at anything else in the house.
When we were invited to participate in this super awesome giveaway which will allow you to enter to win a brand new washer/dryer set, I accepted the offer to receive my own set last month. Instead of being super gracious to Rachael, who arranged the delivery for me, the first thing I told her was that I was disappointed that my laundry room was still disgusting. I mistakenly believed adding a sparkling set of appliances would brighten up the room and place me right in the middle of a Pottery Barn catalog. What it did instead was highlight how dingy that room is.
So now I want to thank Rachael, because a) she’s awesome and my mess is not her fault, and b) my laundry room is extremely efficient these days.
The first reason it’s so efficient is because my husband stays on top of the laundry like nobody’s business; the second is due to the features of the Amana washer and dryer. When you start a load, it does what sounds like a super high-tech scan of the mass of dirty clothes you’ve thrown inside. It’s what’s called a “low-water wash system”, and it uses the minimum resources required to wash the clothes. Same goes for the dryer: magical sensors monitor temperature, automatically stopping the cycle when fabrics are dry, which means both less energy consumed and less shrinkage of clothes.
The contest is now over but HUGE thanks to the Whirlpool Corporation, specifically the Amana brand, and Today’s Mama for sponsoring this promotion and putting the giveaway together!)
This giveaway is administered by Today’s Mama, who will be selecting and notifying the winner as well as making sure the prize gets delivered.

My clean laundry is currently piled high on the couch, awaiting folding. Why is folding so easy to procrastinate?
By entering to win this cool, fancy pants washer and dryer, am I also entered to win a magic laundry fairy who comes to my house in the middle of the night and does all my laundry for me? That would rock!
It’s a manageable amount at this moment.
wow! this would be such an awesome giveaway to win! thank you!
I’m just waiting for our old set to give up on us.
laundry…stacked up, completely neglected during the holidays!!!
All done yesterday, but clean laundry is piling up today! (5 kids)
I’m actually doing OK right now. There’s a load in the washer and another in the dryer but otherwise I’m pretty well caught up (surprisingly).
I used to be on top of my laundry but now with two little ones it seems that I am ALWAYS doing laundry. How do two little beings produce so much dirty laundry?
Ooooo, now this would be great to win!! The dial on my washer is broken and there is dried gum all over the inside of my dryer (both inherited with the house we bought 4 yrs ago and still have never done anything about-sigh….)
I agree with @amanda – we need a folding machine as well as a washing and drying machine.
We constantly have a pile, but try to do at least 1 load a day to keep in under control.
Totally stacked up, and that’s always the case.
My laundry is all still in a garbage bag from the trip we got home from 3 days ago
My laundry situation is under control. For now…
I’d like to see a washing machine that would do micro loads without wasting tons of water.
Well, we spent the last two days scaling Mount Washmore. This new set might make the climb a wee bit easier, yes?
I have no problem washing the clothes. It’s just the folding and putting away part that hangs me up. Does Amana make one of those?
Just folded all of it from a week’s worth of piles. Half put away.
All done! I’m so proud of myself!
Woah… maybe it would be more fun to do laundry this way? I’ll give it a try!
I sadly reverted to a 10+ year old set after moving from my small condo to my small house. Would love to return to the modern world of machines!
My washer and dryer makes this horrible squeaky belt noise that keeps the baby from napping or sleeping while it is on. This is ironic, because how the heck am i supposed to do laundry if i can’t do it during nap time! LOL I would LOVE to win this handsome pair!
My blog is all about laundry— at least a majority of it. It is my nemesis. I should win this set just from the karma side if things.
It’s good your man stays on top of the laundry. It’s what my husband finally learned he had to do as well.
My laundry is in a state of perpetual rotation. There seems to always be a load in some state of washing, drying or waiting to be put away. I put away 3 loads yesterday, now there’s a fresh load waiting to be put away. *sigh*
Hope I win!
Wish me luck!
I have too much laundry! This years big goal is to keep up on it and not get overwhelmed.
My hubby and I have been married for 3 1/2 years and have never owned our own washer and dryer… although we’ve been fortunate to have them included in our rentals, we would love to own some for ourselves!!!
I have a basket of newborn clothes waiting to be washed at the moment as well as a full load of our laundry — my husband has been on solo laundry duty while I was on bed rest…and said a couple weeks ago that once I was off bed rest he was looking forward to having help picking things up but that he would still do the dishes and laundry. I made him shake on that one:)
Stacked up!
Final load for the day in the washer. About 3 loads every single day.
My laundry is always in a pile, waiting to be folded.
It drives the neat freak part of me crazy, but being a twin mama, it’s inevitable!
As a family of five, we do anywhere from 7-10 loads a week! I’d love to win an energy efficient set.
all put away!
My laundry is stacked up higher than I would like to admit!
With a toddler and no washer and dryer at the place we’re renting, the laundry is piling out of what used to be his pack and pay lol
this would be an awesome giveaway to win! our dryer broke last week so we have clothes literally hanging from ceiling fans to help them dry!
Oh my gosh this would be a lifesaver… I easily do 4 loads a day! We have been limping along for a year now with our current machines… these sound amazing!
My dirty laundry still fits within the confines of the hamper… so I guess that’s good? We had houseguests over the holidays though so I have a lot of extra towels and blankets that need washing… and we have a small stackable w/d that was handed down to us from some friends, so I can only fit one blanket or so in a load. Takes for-ev-er. Especially when I get distracted by the baby and forget I’m doing laundry…
Oh laundry why does it have to be such a love hate relationship! Love clean fresh smelling clothes…hate folding!
Actually doing laundry now. Now just have to put it all away…
In our house, we have five adults and one baby. My partner does the laundry and he rocks at getting stains out and making clothes look new. I do the folding otherwise it’ll sit there for weeks! We’re a great team!
Piles and piles waiting to be washed!!! (and then folded and put away.. then worn, washed, folded and put away again… then worn, washed, folded and put away again… and again.. and again…)
We need a washer and dryer so badly. We have to hand wash everything and line dry it for two adults and a toddler, but since its winter sometimes it doesn’t dry, sometimes it freezes. And the hand washing doesn’t always get things clean.
Seeing the socks at the end if the tunnel!
the widget to enter never popped up hope leaving a comment still counts sure need to win tis.
Two loads going now and the rest is stacked high just waiting!
I would love this set, mine are circa 1980…and barely work.
I don’t have a washer and dryer and I spend 3 hours at a laundry mat weekly washing the giant piles of clothes that everyone leaves lying around the house like a trial and tale of where they have been and gone.
