This morning I had this conversation with Sawyer, now almost 14 months:
Me: What does a horse say?
Sawyer: Nayyy
Me: What does a cow say?
Sawyer: Mooo
Me: What does a doggie say?
Sawyer: Heh heh heh
Me: What does a kittie say?
Sawyer: Eee-oooow
Me: What does mama say?
Sawyer: Bye – bye (with a kiss-blowing motion)
I had to stop the game. Sniff. Where was the, “I love you” or any other noise that doesn’t mean I’m a crappy mom?

The blowing the kiss part, of course. He loves you right back!
awww, heather! you are a rock star mom! you can even see it in sawyer’s eyes and smile!
Thanks @Michelle and @Amy. Certain parts of being a mom just sting a bit. Whitney said I should be glad he didn’t answer “NO.”
Oh man. I’m with Whitney. Definitely the kiss is the “I love you” that you say to him every morning.
@Elizabeth, Believe me, mama says that too.
Better than “no” I suppose.
@Liz, Maybe that’s what a Sawyer says.
An Olivia would say that too! It is so hard having to say bye everyday! Love the blowing of the kisses – that’s the important part!
The kiss-blowing is priceless. He knows you love him. No crappy moms here!
I can relate to that, but I think the kiss is the most important part!
We always are so quick to judge ourselves! It’s funny that you read that reaction as being “a crappy mom” when everyone else is reading it as you being a wonderful loving mom who kisses him goodbye.
I don’t think you realize that moms always tell their babies to say Bye to people when they leave. It is kind of the first social interaction term they learn. Do you think that maybe you have been teaching your son lately to say Hello and Bye? “say bye bye”… wave hand “say hello”… wave hand
I agree, @Brooklyn. I didn’t understand the leap to “crappy mom” from a baby who can say Bye-Bye! I guess our own baggage colors everything we see our kids doing.
Ok ladies, Scratch the part about the “crappiest mom” like I said up there, it was more of a knife through the heart that all he knows of me is that I leave him each day. *Pouty face*
