We don't have to travel for Thanksgiving, though we will travel for Christmas. I will try to keep these tips in mind! Today I'm walking around with a dark cloud over my head after my stepmother asked me AGAIN for ideas about what to get the kid for Xmas. I guess the lengthy Amazon wishlist a made a few weeks ago and forwarded to her wasn't quite enough? Yes, total first-world problem, which merely adds to my grumpiness about it!

oh my god! now i feel like less of a freak for crying so much over the holidays! it's the worst when you have to hide it and put on a happy face.

I actually try to listen (with my husband--his idea!!) to buddhist lectures in the car on the way there. My favorite is Gil Fronsdal, from the San Francisco Zen Center. His lectures are available on iTunes and are very topical like "On dealing with difficult people.". I find it very, very, very practical and very helpful!
