Activity #151: Predict the future

I read this in a magazine recently. You can get a sense of your baby’s future height based on the heights of the two biological parents. For boys, add 5 inches to mom’s height. Your son will be between that height and his daddy’s height. For girls, subtract 5 inches from her dad’s height. Your daughter will be between that height and your height.

In my case this is not a helpful predictor at all because we still end up with a 7-inch range for a prediction. At least I know my son will be taller than me. Maybe it calculates more precisely for you.

Activity #294: Let the laundry pile up

Remember when you were single and you’d let yourself get down to one pair of ratty sweatpants and zero pairs of clean underwear before dragging your ass to the laundromat? Back then, you could grab a good book and do load after load of laundry in a single quarter-draining expedition while hoping that nobody cute would see you. When you left, all your old favorite duds would be ready to wear!

Well, those days are over (and not just because I wish for you laundry in your own building). Now, I warn you that the moment you wash all the dirty clothes and linens in your home, your little angel of a baby will have a poo-splosion, a massive spit-up, or both. So, the tip today is to hang back and leave some laundry ready and waiting. And to feel good about it.

Activity #265: Rock out with your bad self

radioThe idea is to introduce baby to some music that’s fun for the whole family. Just like Ryan is plugged into the adult music scene, I feel like Whitney is very clued into cool, alternative kids’ music. Julian has favorite songs and even signs when he wants to hear them.

I, on the other hand, feel clueless (not unlike how I am for adult music). We have started to listen to XM Kids Radio in my house and I think that’s helping. Let me count the ways:

  1. Something to listen to and laugh at for me.
  2. Something to distract young master Holden
  3. Something to allow me to pick him up for dancing without singing any more of my lame songs
  4. Another alternative to TV for mindless entertainment
  5. And a way to sample all the good and great kid’s music without committing to new cd’s (or visits to the Itunes store)
