Play with your hands, a scarf, a diaper, his legs, or by reappearing from behind furniture. I think Holden likes hearing the word and he doesn’t get that I’m hiding and reappearing — the concept of “gone” is quite advanced after all.

Activity #144: Narrate your day
Tell your baby about what you are doing to him when you change his diaper, lift him up, feed him.
Narrate life’s little adventures when you clip your toenails, pee, or fold the laundry. I knew we were a family when I caught myself saying, “and this is mommy’s underwear” and he wasn’t in the room.
Alec discovered that this little trick also works for doing the dishes, but if you want to keep putting off doing dishes, I completely support that!

Activity #137: Explore the mundane
Don’t feel pressure to have all the toys and gizmos. Right now play for your baby is all about exploring, and the focus of his fascination can be as simple as a clean diaper. Hand one over and watch him hold it, shake it and suck on it. Hey, that can take several minutes!

Activity #136: Take some great pictures
Have you taken black and white photos of your baby yet? Put her on a solid colored blanket on your bed and stand on the bed, looking down at her. Then, get down at her level and take some close ups. Take some of her hands and feet, too. Outdoor light also makes for great black and white shots. Take that blanket with you and use your patio, backyard or local park.
